Snooker news - Judd Trump demolishes Shaun Murphy to win International Championship
Updated 16/08/2019 at 07:51 GMT
Judd Trump eased to a dominant 10-3 win over Shaun Murphy in the final of the International Championship.
The world champion put together runs of 58, 104, 58, 74, 80, 63, 102 and 62 to justify his new position as world number one in a dominant performance against the 2005 world champion.
The Magician had beaten Mark Allen 9-6 on Saturday to reach the final but was unable to resist the shot-making of Trump, who raced into five-frame lead.
The 37-year-old Murphy, a finalist at the 2019 Scottish Open, cut the arrears ahead of the interval to 6-3 courtesy of breaks of 87 and 79 but Trump reeled off the next four frames to wrap up his first ranking title of the season and 12th of his career.
"It was very disappointing," Murphy said.
I didn’t really feature in the game. Judd swamped me, that was how it felt.
The win moves Trump, 29, up to ninth on the all-time list of ranking title winners, and the Bristolian, who has won the Masters, World Grand Prix and the World Championship in the last 12 months, has now set his sights on Ronnie O'Sullivan's record of 36.
"As long as I keep putting in the work and be mentally right then there’s no reason I can’t keep on winning," said Trump.
"Sooner or later everyone has a bad spell, I just hope mine isn’t for another 10 years," he added.
If I get towards the 20 mark then I’ll start looking at Mark [Williams], John [Higgins] and Ronnie [O’Sullivan]’s records, but if I can keep winning two, three, four a season then it’s going to come around pretty quick.
The International Championship represented Trump's first tournament since the World Championships, meaning the 29-year-old's unbeaten run now stretches to 12 matches.
