The 2010 world champion showed why he is favourite for the title in Beijing with breaks of 56, 100, 42, 75, 42, 60 and 77 against the world number 72 enough to see him through to the last eight.
The Melbourne player will face Sam Craigie on Friday for a semi-final place in the penultimate event before the World Championship in Sheffield later this month. It is unlikely that minds will be drifting towards the Crucible with the winner of this event collecting a whopping winner's prize of £225,000.
World number 93 Craigie upset former UK Championship finalist Liang Wenbo 6-2, but Stuart Bingham discovered no such trouble as he continued his passage with a classy 6-1 victory over Rod Lawler in which the 2015 world champion rolled in two centuries.
Bingham - in line to pick up a £27,000 cheque for making a 147 break on Wednesday - stepped up a gear in the third frame with knocks of 83, 100, 103, 60 and 91 helping him to complete a runaway victory over his methodical fellow Englishman.
Belgian number one Luca Brecel was another 6-0 winner as he drubbed Iran's world number 33 Hossein Vafaei, contributing knocks of 68, 55, 80, 60, 47 and 43 in the one-sided victory.
He will meet Alan McManus in the quarter finals after the former World Championship semi-finalist beat Anthony McGill 6-3.
McManus opened up a commanding lead, winning the opening four frames including a century to start the match, before McGill got back into it. McGill was on the board at 4-1 before pushing it to 5-3 to begin some talk of a comeback.
However, McManus kept calm to reach the last eight in one of his best runs for the past few seasons.
Jack Lisowski also booked his place in the last eight with a tense 6-4 victory over Li Hang, as the Englishman came from 4-2 down.
A tight opening affair eventually saw Hang open up a two-frame lead, thanks in part to a break of 111. However, Lisowski kept his composure and rattled in some glorious long pots on his way to a fantastic comeback that sets up a clash with Bingham.
