David Moyes in talks with Stuart Pearce over backroom job at West Ham

Speaking after being unveiled as Hammers manager, the 54-year-old said he had already spoken with the former Manchester City and England Under 21s boss to see if he was keen on getting involved at the London Stadium.

Slaven Bilic was sacked on Monday, along with his backroom team, after a terrible run of form saw West Ham battling to get out of the relegation zone. They are currently 18th, with just nine points from eleven games.

Moyes, who was appointed on Tuesday, said: "I'm in talks with a couple of people, Stuart Pearce one of them.

Pearce has already said he is keen to join West Ham, and revealed Moyes tried to recruit him at Preston.

"[I know him] Well enough of course," Pearce told talkSPORT. "We are members of the same union don’t you know. He tried to sign me when he was at Preston actually."

Moyes also said his work will start on the defensive side of West Ham's team as they are simply conceding too many goals. "I've been a football supporter all my days and I love to see attacking play and goals," he added. "But that's no good if you're shipping in goals every week because you can't win the games. You have to start defensively.

"I think we have enough good attacking players to cause teams problems and score goals. Let’s see if we can find a way to stop conceding goals."

The former Manchester United manager also said that he has a point to prove after he was sacked by Manchester United and Real Sociedad before resigning as Sunderland boss.

Moyes’ first test is a trip to Watford on November 19, before his first game at the London Stadium against Leicester City on November 24.
