Defending champion Judd Trump and fellow Englishman Stuart Bingham are locked at 4-4 after an engrossing first session of their European Masters final in Belgium.
Bingham won the opening frame boosted by a break of 45 in the Belgian city of Lommel only for Trump to restore parity with a 42 in the second frame.
2015 world champion Bingham moved 2-1 clear with a run of 73 only for Bristol's world number four Trump to bring matters level at 2-2 with a timely 90.
With both men showing some delightful break-building skills, Bingham pieced together a 107 run for a 3-2 lead before a brilliant 101 to the pink saw him lead 4-2.
Yet Trump - who beat Ronnie O'Sullivan 9-8 in last year's final in Bucharest - showed off some gritty battling qualities in the final two frames to make sure he is not behind when they play to a finish from 6pm (BST) on Sunday night with the first man to nine frames claiming the title and a £75,000 first prize.
He dominated the seventh frame before a fluked snooker behind the black helped him win a second straight frame as a long brown and blue to the middle ensured it is all to play for in this evening's second session.
