Selby, who won the China Championship in Guangzhou with a 10-9 victory over John Higgins in the early hours of Monday morning, opened up a two-frame advantage, making a break of 68 in frame one.

‘What a great pot’ – Selby dispatches long red

However, 38-year-old Day, a World Open and Players Championship winner last season, reeled off four frames on the bounce to secure his spot in the quarter-finals.
The 'Jester from Leicester' needed two snookers in frame six to extend their encounter but, having forced one foul, the 35-year-old’s weak safety play let Day back in to dispatch a red and put the contest beyond the three-time world champion.

Loose Selby safety lets Day in to seal quarter-final spot

Facing Day in the next round will be Mark King, who eased past Ricky Walden 4-1.
World number 23 King put together runs of 73 and 84 as he progressed to the quarter-final stage of the European Masters for the first time since 2007.
Joe Perry claimed a fine win over world number nine Kyren Wilson – making breaks of 130 and 58 on his way to a 4-1 success – while Tian Pengfei was a surprise winner over Liang Wenbo, claiming a 4-2 win over the world number 17.
Anthony Hamilton, the Sheriff of Pottingham, fended off a fightback from Luca Brecel to progress 4-3.
Runs of 51 and 68 helped Hamilton, 47, to a three-frame lead but Brecel took a tense frame four before breaks of 72 and 78 saw the 23-year-old level.
However, Hamilton drew on all his experience to claim the decider and seal a quarter-final spot.
