European Masters 2022 snooker live – Judd Trump takes on Barry Hawkins as quarter-finals get underway

Desmond Kane

Updated 19/08/2022 at 20:46 GMT

Hello and welcome to Eurosport's live coverage of the 2022 European Masters. We're at the business end of the competition now and we will have two rounds today. In the morning and afternoon session the fourth round matches will be played. Judd Trump is in the morning with Mark Williams leading the afternoon. Then in the evening the players return for the quarter-finals.

'More than a feather, was more like a hammer' - Dale feathers the white against Williams

Back tomorrow

Right, that's us done for today, but we're back tomorrow for coverage of that humdinger of a semi-final between Mark Williams and Barry Hawkins. Join us in the afternoon!

Around the tables

Mark Williams 5-1 Jamie Jones
Wu Yize 3-3 Ali Carter
Kyren Wilson 4-1 Si Jiahui

Trump 3-5 Hawkins (0-92)

There's to be no century for Hawkins, but he takes the match with a storming performance. Trump didn't pot a ball in the last three frames! It's his birthday tomorrow, but he won't be celebrating with a semi-final appearance. That accolade goes to Barry, who will face Mark Williams

Trump 3-4 Hawkins (0-71*)

Winning line approaching for Barry, who won the Paul Hunter Classic at this venue back in 2019. He goes past the snookers required stage by taking the black with red number 10.

Trump 3-4 Hawkins (0-50*)

Total match time has just passed two hours, so it's been a quick match. Hawkins plays the split perfectly. Could we see a third century here? It's certainly on the cards

Trump 3-4 Hawkins (0-29*)

Hawkins is first in for frame eight. Win this and he's through. A mistake from Trump opened the door and he's scoring heavily. Again, the split, coming up, will be key

Around the tables

Mark Williams 5-1 Jamie Jones
Wu Yize 2-3 Ali Carter
Kyren Wilson 4-1 Si Jiahui

Trump 3-4 Hawkins (11-114)

Trump moves to within a frame of the semi-finals. Another brilliant break, a second successive century.

Trump 3-3 Hawkins (11-106*)

And he duly knocks in a tight red along the top cushion. Now for another century, which he seals with a pink into the right corner. Back-to-back century for Hawkins

Trump 3-3 Hawkins (11-77*)

Here comes the Hawk! He's racing towards the finish line in this frame, although the early fouls mean this is a frame with lots of points still on the table. One more red to make it snookers required

Trump 3-3 Hawkins (11-50*)

The black and pink are now back on their spots and with each red Barry pots, he seems to open up the path for another. After a century in the last frame, he could well add another here

Trump 3-3 Hawkins (11-18*)

So that shot from Judd, perhaps seeing no other option, has really opened things up. Barry takes a red to the right corner, followed by a pink. He's in with a mega chance of going ahead again here

Trump 3-3 Hawkins (11-4)

After six fast frames, this one is somewhat more gruelling. All 15 of the reds are to the left of centre, black, pink and brown are off their spots. Judd to play safe now and he's in massive trouble. He attempts a hit and hope and they go everywhere

Trump 3-3 Hawkins (11-4)

Another foul from Barry, who brushes the black with the cue ball when trying to find some kind of roll up on a red. He's in a bit of trouble here, and in the end tries a completely different shot, nudging perfectly in to the pack

Trump 3-3 Hawkins (4-4)

Now a foul by Hawkins, who brushes a red that he's bridging over with his cue. Fair play to Barry, who calls the foul on himself, even though the cameras didn't pick it up. Otherwise, this frame is at a bit of a dead end at the moment

Trump 3-3 Hawkins (0-4)

This frame looked certain to be heading for a re-rack, but Trump sends the cue ball into the green pocket when playing away from a touching ball in the pack

Around the tables

Mark Williams, just like he was in the afternoon session, is the first to book his place in the next round. He has breezed through, winning 5-1! The Welshman is having quite the week
Mark Williams 5-1 Jamie Jones
Wu Yize 2-2 Ali Carter
Kyren Wilson 3-1 Si Jiahui

Trump 3-3 Hawkins (0-129)

So we are all square again. What a response from Barry; a faultless break and total clearance of 129 to take us to three each. Remember, first to five goes through to the semis

Trump 3-2 Hawkins (0-102*)

Hawkins has already scored plenty of centuries this week. He needs the last red, so nudges it away from the cushion with a clever kiss off the pink before firing it into the yellow pocket. The pink brings up his seventh 100 of the tournament.

Trump 3-2 Hawkins (0-66*)

This has been a really composed break from Hawkins. He was under huge pressure, having lost three frames in a row, but he's going to take this one, passing the snookers required stage by reaching 66 with five reds left on the table

Trump 3-2 Hawkins (0-37*)

Hawkins opens up the black with a pot into the left corner than brilliantly spreads the reds around the spot. Frame winning chance now

Trump 3-2 Hawkins (0-18*)

Hawkins hasn't potted much over the last couple of frames, but he gets the first chance in this one, opening with a red and pink. The pack is split quite nicely, but the black is tied up, so not as easy as he would like

Around the tables

Mark Williams 4-1 Jamie Jones
Wu Yize 2-2 Ali Carter
Kyren Wilson 3-0 Si Jiahui

Trump 3-2 Hawkins (98-13)

Three in a row for Judd, who scores 38 before going in off on the black. He's really motoring now

Trump 2-2 Hawkins (*98-6)

A mistake from Barry lets Judd back in and he quickly puts the frame to bed

Trump 2-2 Hawkins (60-6)

In fact, Judd runs a cropper when not screwing back far enough for the final loose red in the pack, and the break ends at 60. Hawkins pots that ball into the left middle, but he needs to go around the houses to open the bunch. It's not a shot he makes, hitting the brown

Trump 2-2 Hawkins (*60-0)

No century in this match yet, but Trump has a good chance at one here. He rejects the 147 opportunity when playing up for the green off his fifth red, but soon finds himself back around the black spot. There's another split coming shortly, which you would think would define this frame

Trump 2-2 Hawkins (*32-0)

Trump picks out a red to the right middle to get rolling again in frame five, pretty much picking up where he left off. There's a run-through on a red that goes slightly wrong, but he recovers with an excellent black

Back underway

Okay. Race to five. 2-2. Who's going through to tomorrow's semis? The boys are back on the baize and we are off again

Around the tables

Mark Williams 3-1 Jamie Jones
Wu Yize 1-1 Ali Carter
Kyren Wilson 1-0 Si Jiahui

Trump 2-2 Hawkins (140-0)

So from looking like he might be 3-0 down at one stage, Trump levels at 2-2 going into the interval. An entertaining hour of snooker with some good shot making as well as a handful of mistakes. Judd finishes with a break of 72

Trump 1-2 Hawkins (*82-0)

Hawkins goes in-off when replying with a safety, and he then misses a red to the right corner, teeing Trump up for another chance. He doesn't need much to make it snookers required - and that's where we're at now

Trump 1-2 Hawkins (64-0)

A one-frame visit would be just what the doctor ordered for Trump, ensuring he's level at the mid-session interval. There's some work to do with the final six reds, and his break comes to an untimely end on 64 when he stuns through off the black onto the side cushion, but doesn't have the pace to disturb them.

Trump 1-2 Hawkins (*42-0)

This is the kind of opportunity from which Trump would usually win the frame. A deft little clip on a red opens up the black spot and suddenly he's able to score very quickly

Trump 1-2 Hawkins (*10-0)

That feels like a real steal for Judd, and could be a huge moment in this match. He pots the first ball of frame four with a naughty cross-double, followed by a yellow. Big opening now

Around the tables

Mark Williams 2-1 Jamie Jones
Wu Yize 1-0 Ali Carter
Kyren Wilson 0-0 Si Jiahui

Trump 1-2 Hawkins (67-48)

Trump pots the blue, leaving a long pink to the left corner. This is frame ball and he fires it home. He's on the score board

Trump 0-2 Hawkins (*56-48)

Judd escapes first time, before Hawkins fails to put him in behind the brown. That was a bad safety from Hawkins, because he leaves Trump a long pot on the yellow, which he confidently pots. Can he hit back and take the frame? The blue being off its spot doesn't help

Trump 0-2 Hawkins (47-48)

Marvellous, marvellous long red from Hawkins, left after Trump missed a red to the right corner. He sinks it in the heart of the pocket, adds the brown, penultimate red and pink to draw level on points. The final red is tricky, along the top cushion, but he rattles it home before rolling up behind the pink, which he judges perfectly

Trump 0-2 Hawkins (47-35)

Judd has a lucky escape from that safety, but a few shots later he blinks, leaving Hawkins a red to the left middle. Barry excellent clips that home, but the cue ball runs onto the side cushion and he misses the following tricky blue

Trump 0-2 Hawkins (47-34)

So, still four reds on the table, and this is a huge frame for Judd. He plays a nice safety to leave the cue ball on the top cushion, but the Hawkins response is excellent and he's left Trump in all kinds of trouble

Trump 0-2 Hawkins (47-34)

Trump draws level on points with a red, leaving himself nicely positioned on the black and with a well split pack. There's five reds left on the table, all in the vicinity of the pink spot. He starts picking them off, but leaves himself slightly straight on the blue, so has to screw back for a long pot. Tricky one, and missed to the jaw

Trump 0-2 Hawkins (*17-34)

Hawkins just runs out of position and that leads to him breaking down on 29. He leaves a red over the right corner which is a gimme for Judd, who all of a sudden looks favourite to take the frame, given where the reds are

Trump 0-2 Hawkins (1-11*)

"Frankly, he didn't play it well," says Neal Foulds as Trump goes in off when potting the blue, and that leaves Barry with a long red and another chance to get his hand on the table. He hammers that home, before adding the blue to the green pocket. Once more, the reds are well set. The Hawk has made a superb start

Around the tables

Mark Williams 1-0 Jamie Jones
Wu Yize 1-0 Ali Carter
Kyren Wilson 0-0 Si Jiahui (yet to start)

Trump 0-2 Hawkins (27-77)

Trump leaves a red for Hawkins to squeeze home and that should be the frame. He doubles the last red before missing the pink, but Judd isn't getting out of his chair. 2-0!

Trump 0-1 Hawkins (27-69)

Judd takes a pink, which means he needs blacks off the last two reds. He tries to open them up off the side cushion, but fails to do so and has to play safe

Trump 0-1 Hawkins (*20-69)

But in playing safe, Hawkins leaves the door slightly ajar for Trump, who pots a red and adds the brown. He needs high value colours from now on, otherwise he'll leave himself needing a snooker or two. Pink next, then a brilliant black along the top cushion to get it back on its spot

Trump 0-1 Hawkins (0-69)

Barry just keeps going. Seven blacks, a pink and a blue from his first nine reds. The next one is frame ball - but he screws back off the side cushion and has run wildly out of position. He rejects the only possible pot, playing safe instead

Trump 0-1 Hawkins (0-46*)

Lovely split on the reds from Hawkins, screwing back through the pack after potting a red. They've settled very nicely and he'll fancy his chances of winning the frame now

Trump 0-1 Hawkins (0-14*)

And the Barry is first to get his hand on the table in frame two as he knocks in a long red to the left corner. He's helped by the blue being off its spot, clipping that home to leave a mid-distance red. He's now able to play on the black and this is a big opening

Around the tables

Mark Williams 0-0 Jamie Jones
Wu Yize 0-0 Ali Carter
Kyren Wilson 0-0 Si Jiahui (yet to start)

Trump 0-1 Hawkins (15-67)

Hawkins tries to develop the last red off the brown and fails. It's all immaterial though. He's won the frame and Trump soon concedes. First blood to the Hawk

Trump 0-0 Hawkins (15-66*)

Four reds left on the table now and Hawkins has a 40 point lead as he stretches to send a pick into the left corner. The blue is off its spot, so that makes things slightly tricky given position of the balls, but he's able to keep playing on the pink and soon sinks frame ball

Trump 0-0 Hawkins (15-33*)

Trump's turn for a miss now, this time a red to the left middle, and it hangs over the pocket for Hawkins to delicately clip home. He then fires home a brilliant green from range and now looks well set

Trump 0-0 Hawkins (15-29)

Crikey, that's bad luck for Judd. He goes into the pack when potting the black, only for a red to career into the left middle. Has he left anything for Barry? If so, it's tight. The Hawk is giving it a good luck, but he may have spotted a plant. It's a tough shot and he misses

Trump 0-0 Hawkins (14-22)

A good split on the pack for Hawkins, who has suddenly opened things right up. He gets to 22 himself before missing a simple enough shot.

Trump 0-0 Hawkins (14-1*)

We are under way on the main table as Judd Trump sinks the first red and races to 14 before missing a pot you would expect him to sink. It sits over the pocket, and Hawkins clears up

Elsewhere tonight...

We've also got quarter-final action on the other tables as Wu Yize faces Ali Carter and Mark Williams takes on Jamie Jones. The other last eight match won't start yet as Daniel Wells is locked at 4-4 with Si Jiahui. The winner will face Kyren Wilson tonight

Good evening!

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the quarter-0finals from the European Masters! We've got coverage of Judd Trump against Barry Hawkins coming up in this race to five frames

Evening session coming up

So the evening session is due to get underway at 7pm, although there might be a delay there though, given two matches are still going on and the winners will be playing their quarter-final matches straight away. What we do know is Judd Trump plays Barry Hawkins, and we've got full coverage of it. We'll see you then!

Around the tables

Mark Williams 5-0 Zhou Yuelong
Yan Bingtao 3-4 Jamie Jones
Daniel Wells 2-3 Si Jiahui

Murphy 3-5 Wilson (0-70)

And now Murphy gives up the ghost. Wilson pots another red and Shaun offers his hand, his first win over Murphy for nine years!

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (0-69)

So three snookers required, but Murphy doesn't get a chance to set any as Wilson drills a red down the left cushion and into the corner. The blue stays out. Five snookers required - still Murphy plays on

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (0-68)

Wilson returns to the table and down the red goes. Frame and match, surely. He misses a blue to the yellow pocket, but leads by 68 with only 59 left on

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (0-67)

Kyren obviously felt that red hadn't come into play enough though. He rejects the pot, playing safe instead. 67 ahead, 67 left on. No wiggle room for Murphy, who then misses a red to the left corner

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (0-67*)

Superb cueing from Wilson, with the white next to the cushion, so sink a mid-distance red. He follows with the blue, off which he manages to bring a red into play. This is frame, and match, ball

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (0-61*)

A touch of luck for Wilson, who plays a loose cue ball off the blue, but a handy kiss on a red keeps him in position. Winning line approaching

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (0-46*)

Like so many frames, this one is all about the split into the pack. They've gone wrong for Wilson so far today, but he makes no mistake this time. Can he convert?

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (0-8*)

Murphy, clearly full of confidence after that Houdini act in the last frame, tries to clatter home a long red at the start of frame eight, but he misses and leaves a sitter for Wilson. Opening chance to Kyren who makes no mistake

Around the tables

Mark Williams 5-0 Zhou Yuelong
Yan Bingtao 2-4 Jamie Jones
Daniel Wells 2-3 Si Jiahui

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (64-44)

So on we go. Murphy cleans up, and given how he's played so far, that is a superb break of 30 to take the frame

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (*44-44)

So another opportunity for Murphy, and he plays a lovely opening red, taking the cue ball into the other red on the cushion to bring it into a potable position. Now he should win from here

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (34-44)

But Kyren tries to force the red into the baulk area and misses a blue off the spot in doing so. 10 the lead with two reds left

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (34-43)

A lovely little cannon brings a red on the side cushion into play and is followed by a pink. But guess what? A red over the pocket hits the near jaw and now Wilson will surely clean up

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (*23-43)

And suddenly Shaun is finding some fluency. He quickly pots three reds with colours, but heavy scoring won't be possible from now given the position of the reds, with three of them at the baulk end

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (*1-43)

Murphy is playing his shots somewhat despairingly, with a three ball plant not quite going and another half pot missed. The table is looking very untidy now, but Kyren pushes a red into a handy position from Shaun's point of view - and he duly sinks it into the left middle

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (0-43)

Wilson runs into trouble though by sliding into the pack off the green, and this time there's no escaping pot. He plays safe, and leaves a half chance to the green pocket which Murphy misses

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (0-43*)

Kyren leaves himself straight on a black, meaning positional play on the next red is tough. The recovery pot, with cue ball on the top cushion, is superb, sinking a red into the right middle and getting a delightful kiss on the green that gives him position on a colour.

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (0-23*)

Once again, Murphy leaves a sitter by missing a red to the left corner. He's had a really painful afternoon, both mentally and physically, given his neck troubles. The reds are well spread and a long pot with the rest gets him on the black

Around the tables

Mark Williams 5-0 Zhou Yuelong
Yan Bingtao 2-3Jamie Jones
Daniel Wells 2-2 Si Jiahui

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (20-73)

Wilson snookers himself on the yellow, and even though he doesn't hit, the gap is too big for Murphy, who stays in his chair. Kyren is one frame from the quarter-finals

Murphy 2-3 Wilson (16-69*)

Frame over now though. Wilson cuts a red into the left corner. Murphy won't be coming back to the table now

Murphy 2-3 Wilson (16-66)

Wilson does miss a red to the right corner though, leading to Murphy coming back to the table with 43 left on it, so he requires three snookers. Excellent trap set initially by getting behind the cue ball up behind the yellow - a snooker from which Kyren can't escape

Murphy 2-3 Wilson (12-66*)

That gap increases pretty quickly though. There's a lovely long red to the yellow pocket, followed by the blue. He plays up for the red into the right middle and pots that to go past the snookers required stage

Murphy 2-3 Wilson (12-47*)

An exasperated Murphy pots a red before missing a pink to the green pocket by miles. Big chance for Wilson now to open up a two frame lead for the first time, and he pots the first red before adding the blue. Five reds left, 35 the lead, so some way to go yet

Murphy 2-3 Wilson (11-41)

Both players miss a red, but Wilson's is more costly as he leaves the ball over the pocket for Murphy to tidy up. He then takes the blue (off the black spot), but his split into the pack doesn't go well. He plays safe

Murphy 2-3 Wilson (5-41)

And Wilson misses the split on the pack. Break over. There was a big groan from the crowd there - and an even bigger one when he goes in off playing a safety

Murphy 2-3 Wilson (1-35*)

Stunning positional shot on the black to get on the red on the black spot. Kyren pots that, followed by the blue. The key shot is coming up now, because he needs to go into the pack at some point

Murphy 2-3 Wilson (1-15*)

Murphy is really struggling. He pots a red before missing a blue of the spot that he would sink 999 times out of 1000. That really was regulation. Wilson now gets his hand to the table and is looking like building another dominant lead. He is hampered by the black being put on the brown spot though

Around the tables

Mark Williams 5-0 Zhou Yuelong
Yan Bingtao 2-2 Jamie Jones
Daniel Wells 2-2 Si Jiahui

Murphy 2-3 Wilson (16-79)

Murphy plays on, but he can't lay a snooker and soon leaves a red which Wilson smashes into the green pocket. That makes the frame safe at last, a position further strengthened by a blue and red. Kyren leads again

Murphy 2-2 Wilson (16-72)

The answer is to try and pot the red on the top cushion, but he misses it to the far knuckle. Kyren cleans up, followed by the black. He's 56 ahead with 51 left on

Murphy 2-2 Wilson (16-64)

Murphy finds another long red to the same pocket, followed by a long red to the right corner. There are five reds left, but two or tight on cushions and two are bunched together. He takes the loose one, adding the pink. Where now?

Murphy 2-2 Wilson (1-64)

Not the greatest safety from Wilson, leaving a long red to the left corner which Murphy absolutely drills home. He's completely out of luck though, with the cue ball kissing another red and dropping on the top cushion. Safety off the brown is his shot choice, but a hand thrown up in the air in frustration suggests a kick

Murphy 2-2 Wilson (0-64)

Oh what a let off for Kyren. Murphy has another gimme of a pot, which he misses, allowing Wilson to come back to the table and add a further eight points before playing safe. Seven reds left on the table

Murphy 2-2 Wilson (0-56)

Well the 147 chance goes when Wilson takes a blue instead of a black, but this is now a commanding lead. He's only got one pot on because the reds are tightly grouped together, and he misses, so the break finishes on 52

Murphy 2-2 Wilson (0-44*)

Five reds and five blacks so far. Just sayin'

Murphy 2-2 Wilson (0-20*)

How has that happened? Murphy has had a few shots that have flirted with dropping in, but none quite like that as somehow he catches a red, hovering over the pocket, too thick and it stays out. Wilson tidies up and now has quite the opportunity given where the balls are sitting. What a gift

Murphy 2-2 Wilson

The boys are back on the baize. We're locked at 2-2 in this race to five, and we're underway again

In case you missed it

Judd Trump will headline this evening's session when he faces Barry Hawkins in the quarter-finals, but he didn't make life easy for himself, squeezing into the last eight in a final frame shoot out. Read up on his 5-4 victory over Farakh Ajaib here

Around the tables

Quite the performance from Mark Williams, who is already through with a 5-0 hammering of Zhou Yuelong, but there's two other matches still going
Mark Williams 5-0 Zhou Yuelong
Yan Bingtao 1-2 Jamie Jones
Daniel Wells 1-2 Si Jiahui

Murphy 2-2 Wilson (73-17)

And we will be all-square. Murphy potting his way past the snookers required stage. 48 ahead with 43 left on, a lead enhanced by adding the penultimate red with the pink. A 56 break all in, before he misses a yellow

Murphy 1-2 Wilson (*49-17)

An excellent cut to the left middle, perfectly paced, rescues position for Shaun. This is a frame winning chance now. Can he level going into the mid-session interval?

Murphy 1-2 Wilson (*25-17)

Wilson follows that red with a missed blue to the yellow pocket. He never quite had control of the cue ball there. Can Murphy take advantage? Well he starts with a deft red to the right corner with the rest and is now building from there

Murphy 1-2 Wilson (17-17*)

Oh that's a shocker of a miss from Murphy, a regulation black off the spot. That leaves the door open for Wilson, who strolls right through it by potting a red and black. The pack is very nicely set - can he find position and turn this into a frame winning chance? He's low on the second black, but pots that too. Now the key shot - a long red. Hammered home.

Murphy 1-2 Wilson (*16-0)

So what does frame four have in store? A reasonably poor safety from Kyren leaves a half chance for Shaun, who sinks a long red into the heart of the left corner. He also manages to hold for the black. Can he make a telling contribution here?

Around the tables

Mark Williams 4-0 Zhou Yuelong
Yan Bingtao 1-2 Jamie Jones
Daniel Wells 1-1 Si Jiahui

Murphy 1-2 Wilson (25-83)

Wilson eventually pots the yellow, followed by the green, brown, blue and pink, putting the frame to bed and opening up a lead again

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (25-63)

Wilson misses everything with his escape, but because we're at the snookers required stage, Shaun can't put the cue ball back. Just the four points gained

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (21-63)

There's the frame for Wilson, though, as Murphy misses a long red and leaves it on. Kyren pots that and adds the black for good measure before missing the yellow. Murphy comes back to the table needing four snookers and plays a terrific one up behind the brown. How will Wilson escape this?

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (21-55)

Wilson pots the two loose reds to move into a sizeable lead, and then pots one along the top cushion, followed by the black. The remaining red is frame ball, but he'll have to wait to retake the lead as there's no pot on, so he plays safe

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (21-31*)

Another chance for Wilson in this frame, which has now been going on for over 30 minutes. Two reds are still on the top cushion, but the table is much more open and he can put up a sizeable score here

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (21-16)

Two reds in one shot from Wilson, who's trying to open up three on the right cushion, sending one of them into the green pocket. He then plays safe off the brown. On we go

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (21-11*)

A highly ambitious pot from Wilson, who perhaps just lost a bit of patience, which he misses, opening up the table even more. Murphy has a shot to the left corner that you'd expect him to pot 99 times out of 100, but he misses - and in doing so send a red over the right corner. Chance for Kyren now

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (21-4)

This is real stalemate now. There are ten reds left on the table, and all of them are to the right of the black spot, while five are tight on the top cushion. The pink and black are tied up, and even Murphy going in-off fails to open things up

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (21-0)

Shaun comes back to the table with a terrific pot to the left corner. He has a long think about clipping the pink home, but rejects that, playing safe off the green. This has been a very long frame so far, and there's no sign of it ending any time soon

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (20-0)

Murphy adds only 14 though. This is a tricky table. The pink is past the blue spot, nearly every red is blocking the path of another, and the black is fairly tied up

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (*12-0)

"My word, what a shot," exclaims Alan McManus as Kyren pulls off a super safety escape. He's in trouble now though as Murphy's reply nestles in the jaws of the green pocket. Again, a good effort from Wilson, but his next shot sees a thumping attempt at a pot that goes wrong. Shaun's in among the balls now

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (6-0)

Murphy blinks first in this particular exchange as the cue ball careers into the reds and therefore runs short of the blue spot. Kyren is left a pot with the rest - but he misses. That really is a collector's item, not that it was an easy shot. More safety play on the way

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (6-0)

Hand on table, but Murphy looks somewhat bemused as a positional shot off his second red goes wrong, so he rolls up behind the brown. Better escape this time from Kyren, so we're in for another safety exchange

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (*1-0)

Superb safety early in frame three from Murphy, who gets the white behind the green. This is a tough escape for Kyren, who rolls up against a red on the top cushion, but a double kiss means there's a pot on, which Shaun clips home. Hand on table

Around the tables

Mark Williams 2-0 Zhou Yuelong
Yan Bingtao 0-2 Jamie Jones
Daniel Wells 1-0 Si Jiahui

Murphy 1-1 Wilson (81-31)

Two snookers required. Murphy is in trouble again as Wilson plays up behind the pink. Shaun can't hit it, so that's another four points, but Kyren then misses a pot on the final red, leaving it for the 2005 World Champ to tidy up and take the frame. He'll be relieved to come through that one

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (68-27)

Wilson sets his first trap, rolling up behind the black after potting a red with a brown. The gap is massive with just 35 left on the table, but Kyren's got four points back through a foul

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (68-18)

Murphy is going to be level though, unless there's some snookers. He sends home a lovely long red, plays safe off the brown, and Wilson then hits the pink with his escape. 43 left on, 50 behind

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (61-18)

Well, well, well. Murphy runs out of position, just like he did in the first frame, and the break comes to an untimely end on 61 as he screws back off the pink, on which he was too straight, leaving himself without a pot.

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (*29-18)

And Murphy is turning this into a frame winning chance. A marvellous split on the pack off the pink opens the table up perfectly

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (*7-18)

That handy position is enhanced when he goes into the pack off the blue - but he misses the following red, a deft cut to the right corner. Murphy is back at the table and he's able to clip home that very same ball, holding for the pink in the process

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (0-18*)

After a brief safety exchange, Wilson gains the upperhand and Murphy leaves a long red to the left corner. Kyren sinks it, followed by a pink, and he's now in a fairly decent position.

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (0-4)

I'm not sure Murphy is too comfortable so far. He misses a long red to the yellow pocket, and a couple of shots later is deep on his seat after Wilson pots a double to the left middle. Kyren then tries to go into the pack off the brown, but just skims off them. There's not much on here, spare a very ambitious red to the yellow pocket, which he misses

Around the tables

Mark Williams 0-0 Zhou Yuelong
Yan Bingtao 0-0 Jamie Jones
Daniel Wells 0-0 Si Jiahui

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (20-112)

76 the end total in terms of a break for Wilson, who strikes first blood by taking the opening frame

Murphy 0-0 Wilson (20-78*)

The finish line approaches quickly for Wilson, passing it by potting a black with two reds remaining. Now he'll be looking at getting a 50+ score

Murphy 0-0 Wilson (20-64*)

And that mistake from Shaun has allowed Wilson to come back to the table. He takes a red and green before getting where he wants to be positionally, and is now playing around the black spot. He should take the frame from here

Murphy 0-0 Wilson (20-35)

A poor shot on the blue from Murphy, who over hits the cue ball, which nestles up against a red instead. That makes the next pot very awkward, and he misses a cut to the left middle by some distance

Murphy 0-0 Wilson (*8-35)

That split on the pack isn't perfect though. He's left with a tricky cut back on a red to the left corner, but misses it to the far jaw. Murphy returns to the table and immediately thumps it home, holding for the black in the process

Murphy 0-0 Wilson (0-35*)

It's not the best looking table for Wilson. The pink is pretty tied up, so he takes a couple of blues before playing on the black which is close to the top cushion. He pots that, and suddenly things look much more open - even more so after a pretty decent split on the pack

Murphy 0-0 Wilson (0-7*)

Both players miss cuts on an opening red, but Murphy's failure to sink the pot is more costly as he leaves one on for Kyren. He sends a red into the yellow pocket with the rest, follows it with the pink and is now on his way

Here we go!

Right, it's Shaun Murphy to break us off. This is another best of nine match with a place in the semi-finals at stake

Trump 5-4 Ajaib

That match had it all. So cruel for Ajaib, but tournament favourite Trump survives an almighty scare in Furth.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (66-63)

Well, astonishing twist. Ajaib hits blue escaping from snooker, but goes in off. Such a cruel finale. Trump takes out blue and pink before rolling the black dead weight into the pocket. All or nothing, but Trump survives. An epic finish. Trump through to the last eight tonight to face Barry Hawkins. A classic battle.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (43-63)

In goes the long yellow from Ajaib to move 13 clear. Needing green and brown for victory, but both are off their spots. Slots the green superbly before a quite magical cross double on brown leaves Trump needing a snooker with three balls left up.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (43-54)

Trump misses yellow attempting to glance off it from distance to hand four points back to Ajaib. Full length of table this. Brilliant safety shot the second time.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (43-50)

One red left up. Trump snookers Ajaib behind brown. And earns a valuable eight points. Tough to hit this ball, but Ajaib gets there off three cushions at third attempt. Trump strokes home the final red. All on colours now.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (27-50)

Ajaib went for the long red that could have won the match. So difficult and he has left red to a centre pocket. Chance for Trump to recover under severe pressure.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (19-50)

This is looking very ominous for Trump as Ajaib break moves to 48. A lead of 30 points with four reds left up. He then picks out a lovely long red off the side cushion. Terrific piece of cueing. A 49 break with three reds left up.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (19-14)

Trump with a blunder on long red. Has left Ajaib among the balls. Real chance to get himself clear in this frame. Plenty of points to go at. Reds out in open.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (19-1)

Trump out of position on 19 and is now studying a telling safety shot. Drops the white near baulk cushion as another safety battle ensues.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (12-1)

No harm done for Trump as he returns to the table. Will need to do his work with blues and reds for the imminent future unless he can develop the black.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (0-1)

Safety error by Trump and first chance of the final frame falls to Ajaib. What an upset this would be if he could take out this win, but he jaws a pink to a middle pocket. That is nervous tension. No reason to miss that.

Trump 4-4 Ajaib (0-0)

We are going the distance in Furth. A 58 break from the outsider, who had never been beyond the last 64 at a ranking event before today.

Ronnie O'Sullivan on why his mental fortitude is the key to his snooker greatness

Ronnie O'Sullivan insists his ability to manage anxiety, stress and expectation levels have been key to his snooker success story rather than raw natural ability.
O'Sullivan claimed his seventh world title in May with an 18-14 final win over Judd Trump that saw him equal Stephen Hendry's 1990s Crucible haul.
Despite being widely acclaimed as the snooker GOAT, the 39-time ranking event winner and world No. 1 admits his longevity in the sport has never been a given since turning professional in 1992.
