'This is getting ridiculous' – Top 10 flukes of Shoot Out

That's us done for the night

Join us again tomorrow!

Lawler 3-52 Slessor

Elliot waited patiently for his chance, and took it nicely.

Lawler 3-37 Slessor

A pink to middle as good as ends it, and those great long pots from Rod count for nowt. Twenty seconds left/

Lawler 8-3 Slessor

Rod clouts home another fine log pot, this time to left corner, and again receives no reward. Then, when he takes on the next one, he misses and leaves plenty; with two minutes left, Elliot can sort things from here.

Lawler 2-1 Slessor

Rod jabs a red a long way and into right corner - that's a fine pot - but he winds up on nowt, and that lowest-ever score of 9-7 is under threat here.

Lawler 1-1 Slessor

One for the purists to finish. 4.50 to go.

Lawler 1-1 Slessor

Elliot eases in a cut-back red but can only play safe off the yellow; there's 6.23 left.

Lawler 1-0 Slessor

Rod rattles home a diagonal red to right corner then sticks Elliot on the baulk rail - just.

Fan 100-1 Evans

Impressive performance from Fan, who records his first-ever shootout win. One match to come.

Fan 73-1 Evans

There are enough points on the table for Reanne, but after playing a nice pot on the red, she misses a simple green ad now needs a snooker. Fan, meanwhile, bags a few more.

Fan 66-0 Evans

Yeah, that was a catastrophic error; Fan isas good as home here, with four minutes to go, when he runs out of position.

Fan 23-0 Evans

Fan gets in but can only manage nine; Reanne, though, makes a terrible error, failing to hit a cushion with red or which, and that might be enough for Fan - though there's stil 6.40 left.

Lei 40-22 Burden

Yup, that easy red cost Alife, and Lei moves on. Two matches to go.

Lei 25-22 Burden

A brilliant red to right middle leaves Lei on nothing, and with two minutes left he's running out of time. Alfie then misses a regulation starter to left corner, and that might well cost him the match because Lei is back in.

Lei 19-22 Burden

My computer crashes, returning in time for me to see Lei breaking up the remaining reds.

O'Connor 33-38 Lines

And he takes a blue to right corner when it cut to the middle! He then misses a red, and with 20 seconds left, Peter is nearly home, sending a red up the table; Joe misses a hail Mary to the green pocket, and that's that.

O'Connor 32-38 Lines

1.44 to go, and Joe still needs a few balls.

O'Connor 10-38 Lines

Playing a red to middle, Peter contacts the near knuckle, and this is a great chance for Joe to seal...

O'Connor 0-30 Lines

A fine long red to left corner sets Peter away; his son Ollie moved into round two earlier today and he's holding up the family end so far .. but then a poor shot leaves him without a colour, so it's the black off the side cushion and the white close to the top.

Lisowski 89-7 Woolaston

On 89, Jack misses the brown, and that was very impressive indeed.

Lisowski 52-7 Woolaston

Thing is, the balls are so nicely spread he can't afford to miss; well, he hasn't so far, and with 4.30 left, he looks likely to secure the frame.

Lisowski 20-7 Woolaston

On the face of things, this is the most attractive match of the night; let's see. Jack hits across one so Ben gets involved, but only to the tune of seven; it's now Jack back at the table, left one to middle and looking smooth.

O'Brien 1-38 Fernandez

Leo makes sure with a double; there are 30 seconds to go when Fergal concedes.

O'Brien 1-30 Fernandez

On 25, Leo opts not to take on a tricky red, playing safe, and this is one for the purists. But after some safety, Leo gets back in, and this should be did.

O'Brien 0-25 Fernandez

Leo cracks home to right corner and the now well-oiled crowd enjoy the moment. He quickly gets himself down the business end, and this is a really good chance now, plenty of balls available and less the five minutes left.

O'Brien 0-0 Fernandez

A poor safety from Leo gives Fergal a chance to left middle, but he can't take it, and with seven minutes left we're still scoreless.

Walden 27-54 Surety

A poor shot from Zak looks to have presented Ricky with a chance, but the black covers the reds - he raises a hand in apology - then sinks another ball. He then misses a red to right corner and Ricky returns to the table, for why I'm not sure. But he soon concedes.

Walden 27-51 Surety

Ricky's doing his best, a fine red taking him up to baulk to sink the pink. But the balls aren't set for the kind of run he needs, and with three minutes left, this is over.

Walden 1-51 Surety

This is good from Zak, who rattles in the blue but gets no luck off the pack; end of break. Ricky, though, will need all the remaining reds with high-value colours, so he knocks the black safe and this is close to over.

Walden 1-29 Surety

Rixky gets in but misses the pink, allowing Zak to begin accumulating.

Lyu 32-89 Young

A tremendous cross-double on the pink allows Dean to pot the black; he misses, but that's a great and impressive win for him.

Lyu 32-69 Young

When he misses, though, Lyu returns ... but misses a red along the bottom rail that, had it gone in, would've given him a proper chance. He jawses it but, Dean sinks it, andit's over.

Lyu 24-61 Young

Excellent from Dean, but he'll need a few more balls because there's still 3.44 left. He gets them, and this is over now.

Lyu 24-14 Young

A decent safety from Dean forces a hit and hope from Lyu, and he leaves a simple starter. With six minutes to go, Dean is ensconced at the table.

Lyu 24-1 Young

Dean misses a black down the rail, handing Lyu a pretty presentable chance. But he misses a cut to left corner, catching the near jaw, and with 7.30 to go both men and seeking an oportunity.

Williams M 59-1 Carrington

A run of 12 makes the frame safe, but Stuart returns to the table anyway and Mark rubs it in by potting a few more balls.

Williams M 40-1 Carrington

Mark is potting nicely, and a blue to the green pocket sees him race back up the table; with reds tied up, he plays safe, and this is pretty much over with less than three minutes left.

Williams M 9-1 Carrington

A missed red apiece, Mark into left corner and Stuart into right centre, then Stuart fails to capitalise on an opener ... but Mark finishes on nowt after sinking one of his own. He gets in again, though, and with 4.30 to go is in the box seat.

Walker 8-50 Hill

But as I type that, he misses a red to right corner and there's long enough to catch up, but Lee misses his second red, also to right corner, and concedes.

Walker 0-50 Hill

Aaron's taking these nicely, and he's got this one sorted, at the table with 2.41 left.

Walker 0-12 Hill

Lee misses a plant, and surely Aaron will get us on the board now ... he does, and given how long that took a decent contribution here will be a matchwinner.

Walker 0-0 Hill

I've seen Aaron Hill before, against Ronnie if I remember correctly, and he can play. Aha, vindication! Fouldsy says he likes him too, but it's a slow start to this match, three minutes with nae points scored; 9-7 is the lowest-ever score in a shootout match.

O'Donnell 1-75 Bulman

Martin concedes, and that's a great win for Ross. As Dave notes, every year someone not that renowned has a good run, so maybe it'll be him.

O'Donnell 1-56 Bulman

Ross gets in again and this is pretty much over inside five minutes.

O'Donnell 0-21 Bulman

Ross gets away with a 21 while, in comms, Dave Gilbert talks about how slick and quick the table is.

Gilbert 29-17 Akani

Dave breaks down and Sunny is in next, but when he misses a simple blue to middle, Dave have a chance to secure the match with less than a minute left. This is over.

Gilbert 23-9 Akani

It's Sunny in next, but again he can't do much damage ... and disaster! He goes in-off, so Dave sticks the white down the business end and begins stroking balls into bags.

Gilbert 1-6 Akani

Dave sinks a red but can manage no more, then Sunny absolutely monsters home a red to left corner ... but can only parlay it into a blue.

Higginson 0-0 Patrick (40-6)

Andrew wins comfortably.

Higginson 0-0 Patrick (60-6)

Fraser gets away with a red to middle, but he misses the next red after sinking the blue, and that will be curtains.

Higginson 0-0 Patrick (51-0)

He runs out of position on 54, the lead at 58, but there's 5.30 left for Fraser to retrieve the situation.

Higginson 0-0 Patrick (51-0)

Andrew rescues a poor red with a delicate cut-back black, and he's amassing an unassailable lead here.

Higginson 0-0 Patrick (13-0)

Andrew gets in first and second, with an opportunity to make some hay.

Judge 22-29 Lloyd

Michael misses a red to middle, just, and he's gone!

Judge 22-29 Lloyd

Eeesh, an error from Michael gives Mark, who's done nowt in the frame, the chance to steal it, and a blue to the yellow pocket, with the rest, gives him a chance. He follows it with a red, and another that he doubles, allows him to play safe with one minute 50 left.

Judge 11-5 Lloyd

Now Mark misses a red, but Michael can't capitalise, missing a black, and this looks like being a scrappy one.

Judge 4-1 Lloyd

"Go on yer honour!" shouts a hilarious man in the crowd, but Michael misses a red on the stretch and Mark gets to work.

Chen 50-59 Deaville

Hing aboot. With 90 seconds left, Chen misses a mid-distance red to right corner, and Paul should take it home from here ... he does! The 17-year-old wins!

Chen 39-37 Deaville

It's Chen at the table now, and he's got more than enough time to repair his arrears; the reds are split, and he's now a strong favourite.

Chen 8-37 Deaville

Paul accumulates a decent lead but with nearly seven minutes left he misses a red that he also leaves. If Chen splits the pack nicely, he's in business, but he doesn't and has to take one on to right middle; he misses, and that might cost him the match.

Chen 0-1 Deaville

Paul begins with a long red but misses the yellow, sending it up the table ... for Chen to accidentally knock it in. He leaves one too, and Paul's away again.

Selby 43-38 Li

Mark drains a red, plays safe, and Li has to see this next one away ... but he goes in-off instead, and Selby is through!

Selby 38-38 Li

No! Li overcuts a red to right middle; if the scores are level, it's a blue-ball shootout to decide who wins.

Selby 38-38 Li

Li gets himself to the table and all of a sudden he's got a chance to steal. There's a red by the black that he needs to bag because that'll give him seven points available to each pocket, and after seeing off that black via cut-back he's now favourite!

Selby 34-0 Li

There's a fair bit of tedious siuing as Mark, last term's beaten finalist, hauls the white up the table but declares his break on 34. Li will do well to retrieve this.

Selby 16-0 Li

A slow start, in the context, but it's now Mark at the table potting balls.

And it's great to see Mark Selby

At home and kicking us off.

  • Est. 4:30pm: Haydon Pinhey (a) 0-1 Farakh Ajaib
  • Est. 4:45pm: Chang Bingyu 0-1 Shaun Murphy

Chang Bingyu 0-1 Murphy (50-51)

A superb response by Murphy to win a thriller. Slotted the blue to move ahead by one point and Chang couldn't sink pink. Murphy through to the last 64 by one point having trailed 50-1. Magical from 'The Magician'. "I know they call me the magician, but I feel like Houdini after that," said Murphy.

Chang Bingyu 0-0 Murphy (50-25)

Murphy rolls in a stunning long red. Gets to 25, but 25 behind with two reds left up.

Chang Bingyu 0-0 Murphy (50-1)

Chang's break moves to 42 before he drops in another delightful red. Murphy well behind in this frame. Five minutes remaining.

Chang Bingyu 0-0 Murphy (6-1)

Final lag of the day. Murphy with a brilliant opening red before Chang responds with one of his own. First chance to the 19-year-old.

Pinhey 0-1 Farakh Ajaib (33-35)

The man from Accrington is through by just two points. Lovely few points at the end of the frame. Scrapes through in the 15th match of the first round. One more match to come involving the former world champion Shaun Murphy.

Pinhey 0-0 Farakh Ajaib (33-20)

Farakh Ajaib holding the narrow edge in the penultimate match of the day. Bit of a discussion for a few minutes about which ball Farakh Ajaib was aiming for. Played the blue, but referee heard him say green. Discussion with both players before the official accepts that decision and reverses his original call of a foul.

Burns 1-0 Astley (71-14)

So, there we go. Burns a dominant force on the first day.

Burns 0-0 Astley (55-5)

Astley dismissed Neil Robertson 6-2 in the first round of the UK Championship in November, but misses an easy red among the balls. All edgy with Burns holding the advantage before the world number 113 lays a timely snooker. Should be a Burns victory to reach the last 64 on Saturday.

Have a nice day

Defending champion Ryan Day bows out in first round.

  • Est. 4:45pm: Chang Bingyu 0-1 Shaun Murphy

Gao Yang 1-0 Wilson (64-35)

Almost a big steal from Wilson, but breaks down on the final yellow after picking out some nice pots. Gao shows his quality to progress to the last 64.

Gao Yang 0-0 Wilson (56-8)

This is classy stuff from Gao. Just before the 10-second shot clock comes into play, reaches 49 but then suddenly misses an easy red. Door still open. Clock against Wilson as Gao slots another terrific red. Should be game over.

Gao Yang 0-0 Wilson (0-0)

Battle of the teenagers as Gao and Jamie Wilson emerge to Let Me Entertain You by Robbie Williams. Not the snooker player of the same name. Lets get the boys on the baize.

Liang 1-0 O'Neill (41-40)

Error by Liang has presented the Northern Irishman, ranked at 115 in the world, with chance to recover, but he comes up one point short. Agony for O'Neill there. So near yet so far. Liang survives.

Liang 0-0 O'Neill (27-8)

Former UK finalist Liang Wenbo makes a quick 23 in his match with Jamie O'Neill. Back at the table seconds later, but can only add four points. O'Neill with his first real chance to piece together some momentum, but only adding eight points.

Dale 0-1 Lines (32-36)

Well, that is amazing, a brilliant finish by Oliver LInes to pinch the match at the death after Dale messed up. Lovely plant on reds and he rolls in black with seconds to spare. Superb stuff.

Dale 0-0 Lines (32-14)

Lines throws caution to the wind, but red doesn't drop and Dale has a glorious chance to complete the victory.

Dale 0-0 Lines (24-14)

Lines narrowly failing to find a long red. Rattles in jaws, but he picks out a nice one a few seconds later.

Dale 0-0 Lines (5-8)

Dominic Dale being given a nice reception from the Leicester crowd against Oliver Lines, whose dad Peter faces Joe O'Connor later tonight. Dale the winner of this event in 2014 in Blackpool.

Bond 1-0 Gould (49-3)

Looks like Gould might bow out of this event at first stage. Bond finishing off the business at hand. He progresses to the last 64.

Bond 0-0 Gould (41-0)

Gould yet to get off mark as a red to middle doesn't drop. Another chance for Bond to add to his lead.

Bond 0-0 Gould (27-0)

Bond making the early running out there, but still six minutes left of the frame. Plenty of time for Gould to strike back.

Bond 0-0 Gould (10-0)

2011 Shoot Out winner Nigel Bond against the 2013 Shoot Out champion Martin Gould. World number 19 Gould starts off by missing a red to a middle pocket before seeing white go in off. First chance to Bond, who has been on the World Snooker Tour since 1989. 69 in world at moment.

Page 1-0 Cahill (64-16)

Page leaving his opponent needing two snookers, but Cahill has seen enough. He is through to the last 64.

Page 0-0 Cahill (56-16)

Chance for James Cahill to score a few points after Jackson Page breaks down on 20. Crowd quite noisy at the Morningside Arena. Page on the same page as he starts to cut loose seconds later. In fine scoring form.

Pang 0-1 Cao (20-39)

Former Scottish Open finalist Cao can't sink a green to a centre pocket and has opened the door for Pang, who draws level at 20-20 before missing a pink. Cao with chance to win frame and the match. Which he does by winding down the clock. Through to last 64.

Pang 0-0 Cao (2-14)

A few aggressive shots being played by Cao, but all the balls are at the top end of the table. Room for tactics in this format.

Pang Junxu 0-0 Cao Yupeng (0-0)

All-Chinese derby battle. Crowd are starting to warm up out there. Few fizzers going down the neck.

Greene 0-1 Steadman (19-44)

Steadman steady as you like. Through to the last 64. Gerard Greene with envy. Or perhaps not.

Greene 0-0 Steadman (19-38)

A thumping pot in red by last year's semi-finalist Steadman. Moving to the brink of victory as he rolls in another black and red. Almost home and hosed here.

Greene 0-0 Steadman (14-14)

Edgy start by Greene and Steadman, who knocks in a superb red to a middle bag. This one is not going to slip quietly into the night.

Carter 1-0 Stevens (81-0)

Carter back for the weekend's action. Job done with some ease.

Carter 0-0 Stevens (61-0)

Stevens is not going to pot a ball in this frame. Carter playing a terrific frame of Shoot Out snooker to reach the last 64.

Carter 0-0 Stevens (39-0)

Carter just dominating the action at the moment. Also holding a nice lead with less than four minutes left.

Carter 0-0 Stevens (7-0)

The two-times world finalist Carter gets a warm welcome to face the former UK and Masters holder Stevens in a bit of a time-honoured battle.

LU NING 0-1 MOODY (27-48)

15-year-old Moody is through to the last 64. Brilliant from the young man. Lu heading home

LU NING 0-0 MOODY (20-46)

World number 31 Lu Ning in a spot of trouble against kid potter Stan Moody. The young bloke holding a 46-20 lead with five minutes remaining.

LICHTENBERG 1-0 EMERY (48-45)

Looks like the German player is going to prevail until he screws white into a pocket. Lichtenberg almost threw that match away. Extremely fortunate with Emery running out of time needing red and black for victory. A narrow escape.

LICHTENBERG 0-0 EMERY (45-27)

World number 78 Lichtenberg misses an easy red, but Emery then fails to hole one to a middle bag. What an error that is. Might cost the young Welshman the match.

ROBERTSON 0-1 BLACKWELL (15-21)

Not much to write home about that one, but it is Blackwell who gets over the line. Motoring along nicely out there in these opening matches. All about the W for these players in the race for the £50,000 first prize.

ROBERTSON 0-0 BLACKWELL (15-19)

One minute and forty seconds left..four points in it..

ROBERTSON 0-0 BLACKWELL (14-12)

Match number three sees Jimmy Robertson face fellow Englishman Simon Blackwell. Robertson missing two easy reds early on when he looked likely to score heavily. A nervy long shot gives Blackwell a chance to score.

TAYLOR 1-0 DAVIES (103-3)

First century of this year's event. A wonderful break of 103 from Taylor. He is through to the last 64 in some style. Only the 23rd ton in Shoot Out history. And completed in just over six minutes.

TAYLOR 0-0 DAVIES (71-3)

Normal service resumed with world number 76 Taylor quickly up to 50. Exceptional stuff this from Taylor, who is going to take this frame out in one hit.

TAYLOR 0-0 DAVIES (0-3)

Second match is Allan Taylor against 15-year-old Liam Davies, who is off and running with a long red. Nice experience for the young man.

DAY 0-1 JONES (23-50)

Jones slams in a mid-range red and Ryan 'Dynamite' Day is out of the event. No repeat of last year. There we go. First man into the last 64 is another Welshman.

DAY 0-0 JONES (23-44)

Looks like the defending champion might be heading out at the first hurdle.

DAY 0-0 JONES (23-23)

An all-Welsh battle to get this tournament off and running. Day defending his title. Less than three minutes to go in this one.

SCENE SETTER

Ryan Day returns as the defending champion at the 12th running of the Shoot Out. The 41-year-old beat Mark Selby in last year’s final, and begins the defence of his crown against Jak Jones at 13:00 UK time.
