'It's still not funny!' - Murphy jokes with fans after snookering himself in Welsh Open final

Thanks for your company

It's been a great week in Hull, and next up: Sheffield. The Worlds are inbound, with 17 glorious days and nights at the Crucible to end the season.
We'll see you there, night night.

How the Tour was won

That was such a close final, and initially it looked like Kyren might run way with it as he stormed into a 4-0 lead. From there, however, Shaun took over. It was a mix of his A and B games; some concussive breaks and flashy centuries in there, combined with two, crucial clearances where he stole frames from Kyren on the final black. Ultimately, that was probably what separated them. Shaun has the A and B game nailed. The latter for Kyren still needs a little work on tonight's evidence, but when he nails it down, he'll be even more of a force than he is already.

The swag

Kyren takes his runners up prize, before Shaun gets his mits on the trophy and the cheque for £150k. Confetti rains down, Burb Baby Burn rings out over the wireless and Shaun is sporting the biggest grin in Hull right now.

Shaun talks

He's made up - as you would be - and points out that it's the first time he's won two ranking events in one season. He's also only the third player, after Neil Robertson and Ronnie O'Sullivan, to win all three Players Series events. Touchingly, he gives a nod to Kyren as a model pro for whom big things are coming. That's nice, and this final has been played in a great spirit.

Shaun Murphy is the 2023 Tour Championship Winner!

He's done the double! Shaun won the Players Championship in February, he's now added this Players Series crown to it to make a unique double. That's £300,000 in the tin for both, and also makes Shaun a serious contender for Sheffield in a few weeks time. What a 2023 it's been for his so far, could it get even better still?

Murphy 10-7 Wilson

And after a further seven points, Shaun Murphy is the winner!

Murphy 9-7 Wilson (69-13)

Frame ball blue goes in, but Shaun inexplicably lands the white touching the insurance red on the bottom cushion, so we'll be playing on! Kyren, with a Herculean task on his hands, tries to snick siad red into the bottom left but he's missed it and left it in the jaws. This one's over.

Murphy 9-7 Wilson (47-13)

Kyren, who can see reds, fails to connect twice from a two cushion glancing escape and is warned that he'll lose frame and final if it happens again. With little other option than to have a yahoo at a pot he takes on a red to bottom left, gambling everything on it. The red doesn't drop, and he's left it all on for Shaun.

Murphy 9-7 Wilson (39-13)

Shaun vaults into the lead, and this is already looking a bit ominous as, bar a line of three reds below the pink, nothing is safe here and all of the colours are on their spots. Here's a potential out for Kyren though - in going in and out of baulk Shaun lands too close to the blue, and although he finds a recovery pot on a red with the rest he's not on a colour and has to play safe. There are six reds left, and this is still anyone's frame.

Murphy 9-7 Wilson (0-13)

Kyren utterly bullets a red into the bottom right as a shot to nothing, and he's on the green. That goes too - every shot could be his last here - and within seconds he's got the white fizzing around the black spot. There's a fair few on here. Just as a hefty visit looks incoming though, he misses a black off its spot to the bottom left, and he's handed Shaun a great chance.

Murphy 9-7 Wilson

Shaun miscues the brown, so the break stalls on 95. He's so close to the title now! Kyren rattled off a barrage of breaks to win a slew of opening frames, and will need something similar now if he's to win from here.

Murphy 8-7 Wilson (73-0)

Frame ball red disappears, with a black to follow; there's plenty more coming too, and Shaun is zoning in on the Players and Tour Championship double. He's letting his arm go now, and there's another ton on here as everything is in the open.

Murphy 8-7 Wilson (50-0)

Shaun survives one loose positional shot with a good recovery red to bottom right with the rest, and he's soon up to the 50 point mark in the frame. There are enough open reds to sort this frame without disturbing anything else, so he just needs to hold his nerve here and he'll be one frame away from the title.

Murphy 8-7 Wilson (22-0)

Any misjudgement from here feels huge, and when Kyren clangs the brown from a safety at the start of frame 16 he leaves a straight red to the bottom left, which Shaun buries. It's only a half-chance, needing a plant to keep it going early, from which Shaun lands stranded in baulk. A safety behind the brown follows, and from Kyren's one cushion escape to rest on the pack, Shaun picks off a stray red long to the green pocket, and he's on the black. Into the pack he goes off it, and they break kindly.

Murphy 8-7 Wilson

Shaun is left with no option but to pot the yellow, and then flukes the green with a swerve shot. Kyren grins, and when Shaun then goes in-off, the frame is duly called off. That's huge for Kyren.

Murphy 8-6 Wilson (27-61)

Well here's an industrial skip full of luck for Kyren at last - he's just fluked one of the reds outrageously into the right middle! And it was frame ball no less, stunning. Shaun returns, needing two snookers. He picks off the final red with a pink to follow, and will go for it on the colours.

Murphy 8-6 Wilson (20-60)

Kyren will need one of two reds up near the left rail, the only ones remaining. He goes into them off the pink. How's your luck? Out for dinner unfortunately, as he's on nish. A safety follows, but my word that's a gutsy visit from Kyren even if he couldn't end the frame with it.

Murphy 8-6 Wilson (20-43)

He's under a lot of pressure here, but Kyren is taking these very calmly. Once more though, the break falls apart at a crucial juncture as he catches a blue full ball from a positional shot and doesn't leave himself any red that isn't brutally difficult. Kyren, however, does not want for bottle; he drains a red down the rail and into the bottom right, landing perfectly on the green to boot! What a shot at such a moment.

Murphy 8-6 Wilson (20-0)

After a containing safety from Shaun, Kyren opts to slow roll a red long to the green pocket. Again it doesn't really go close, and it's on for Shaun to the same pocket. There aren't many loose reds here, but Shaun can sense a struggling opponent I'm sure and will be going all out to develop another one hit opportunity here. He gets to 20 by stunning in a red and opening the pack and the pink - just about - will go into the bottom left to follow. Shaun catches a red on the way though, and it misses - what a chance now for Kyren! He simply has to register a big visit here.

Murphy 8-6 Wilson

A super shot from Shaun drops the white in behind the final red down the right rail; he rolls that in followed by the black for another century. And that's not all, as Shaun calmly mops up to the blue for a 115. That felt like a definitive move, a crushing break to punish a bad mistake within minutes. Can Kyren possibly turn this around?

Murphy 7-6 Wilson (66-0)

Shaun does open the cluster, but it only leaves a thin red to left middle and in potting it, he lands wrong side of the blue. He rolls that in, and leaves a mid-range cut on a red for frame ball. He's really playing with a freedom now, and sweeps it in superbly to land on the blue. In a few moments he'll have won eight of the last 10, and Kyren might be having flashbacks to being overwhelmed by Shaun after leading their 2021 World Championship semi-final.

Murphy 7-6 Wilson (51-0)

A split on the reds off the blue takes Shaun to 45, and he's just about on one to the bottom right with the rest. He's been good with said implement all day, and middles this one to go around the angles and land high on the blue. That goes, and it's another half-ton; the frame looks nailed on to follow if he can nudge apart four remaining reds below the pink spot.

Murphy 7-6 Wilson (24-0)

Hmmm, bad signs here for Kyren as he takes on a long red to bottom right and it doesn't even trouble the jaws. The white lands in the middle of the table, and it's an easy starter for Shaun. After a few pots up in baulk he's soon at the business end of the table, and has the black on to both corners.

Murphy 7-6 Wilson

The black goes, followed by yellow and green, meaning Kyren now needs a snooker. The brown is already safe and Shaun keeps it that way, but Kyren pulls out a corker of a snooker to trap Shaun behind the pink. How about this though - Shaun swerves out of it, and clips the brown into the green pocket! Oh my. That's the frame, and for the first time today Shaun leads the final!

Murphy 6-6 Wilson (48-35)

Shaun tries to develop the two reds, and does but he's left himself awkward on his next colour and opts to hedge his bets and play safe off the brown and put it safe. It's a poor cue ball though, landing nowhere near the top cushion, and from there Kyren clips in a long red and he's on the black. He's going for it, but he's missed the pot by a long way and left Shaun on the last red! That could be curtains, as Shaun clips it in and the black is waiting for him.

Murphy 6-6 Wilson (35-34)

Kyren loses position, forcing him into a tough red down the rail with the rest. It coughs out of the bottom right, and the chance now falls to Shaun to take the frame. Another plant keeps his break going here, and he's soon in the lead in the frame. There are two reds blocking each other near the left rail that are Kyren's potential saviours here.

Murphy 6-6 Wilson (16-30)

There's a few wobbles here from Kyren, as an early red uses all of the bottom left to drop in, but he settles the break down and takes the lead in the frame. In potting the blue he booms open the pack, which splits far, wide and unkindly; there's nothing easy on. He recovers with a brilliant cut on a red to bottom right, going in and out of baulk to land on the brown. What a superb shot, can he cash this in?

Murphy 6-6 Wilson (16-0)

We're back, and Shaun gets a chance as Kyren misses a long red to the bottom right and leaves it on. After losing position early in his break Shaun recovers by making a plant on two reds to hold for the black. Signs of nerves here though - on 16 he misses a straight red to bottom right and he's handed a gift of a chance to Kyren.

Murphy 6-6 Wilson

He jumped in to steal the final frame of the afternoon on the black, and he's done it again here! Shaun tidies up a quick 31 to take the frame on the last ball; we're all square again folks! Kyren will need to have a brew and a calm down, he'll be furious he's not 7-5 up but that's gone now.
Here's our 15 minute break, when we get back we've got a best of seven with 150 bags on the line. Oh yes!

Murphy 5-6 Wilson (33-56)

Oh my days. Needing only a red and a colour, Kyren booms the last red at the bottom left and he's missed it badly. Too much adrenalin? That looked a rushed shot, and he's gone and left the frame on here. Can Shaun jump in for a huge steal to take us to the interval all square?

Murphy 5-6 Wilson (33-36)

It's now one of those chances we mentioned again, as Kyren hits the front with four reds remaining. They're all in the open, as are the colours; it's all there for him, and Shaun can only sit and hope.

Murphy 5-6 Wilson (33-13)

It's another unusual miss for Shaun, as he leaves a deadweight, almost straight black hanging in the jaws of the bottom right. Kyren clatters in a long red and goes into the pack off the black, but he skims off the side of it and lands stranded in baulk. What a shot he's played here though - he's only gone and cross-doubled the red into the right middle! And for his next trick? He's split the pack beautifully off one cushion after potting the green! What a pair of shots those are.

Murphy 5-6 Wilson (18-0)

Kyren drains a superb cut on a red to left middle, but as the white flies back up the table off the bottom cushion it goes in-off after clipping the yellow. Oh ye cruel fates! Shaun isn't hanging about, draining a long red from the D and settling into a break of 18 and counting so far.

Murphy 5-6 Wilson

Kyren does get frame ball red down, but can't follow it with the black. Shaun will play on, and this kind of rhythm-disrupting exchange is what future Kyren needs to avoid. A few minutes later a lovely reverse red by Kyren to the green pocket puts it to bed; a sloppy one, but he's back in front.

Murphy 5-5 Wilson (15-65)

If Kyren's going to win this title - and looking forward, the Worlds one day - these are the chances that need to be dealt with like a piece of routine admin. He's taking them well, picking off 45 and counting and with only four reds remaining on the table. He's red-colour-red away, and it looks a formality until he plays an absolute howler off the pink just as he was dropping on frame ball red. Oh Kyren! A safety follows, and with 51 on Shaun can nick it.

Murphy 5-5 Wilson (15-13)

Shaun cracks in his opening red with the rest, freeing the pink as he does so, and there is a load to feast on here. Have a look at this though - on 15 he leaves a wafer thin cut on a red to bottom left, doesn't put enough through the cue and it hangs in the jaws! He actually overcut it too, which is extraordinary from that angle. If Kyren can cash this in it'll be a huge reprieve.

Murphy 5-5 Wilson (0-13)

It's seven to Kyren as Shaun accidentally plants in the black at the start of frame 11. Kyren gets in first too, with a lovely shot to nothing to the bottom right, and then powers the brown into the left middle. A red long to the bottom left thereafter gets him on the blue, but he miscues it badly and the pot misses by a huge margin. That could be costly, as he's left Shaun right in.

Murphy 5-5 Wilson

Shaun walks it in, making his highest break of the day so far. The ton arrives, as Shaun makes 131, only missing the total clearance by rattling the black out of the bottom right at the end. Magnificent stuff!

Murphy 4-5 Wilson (65-0)

A black thundered into the bottom left takes Shaun to his half-century. He's left a tough red to the yellow pocket to follow, across the table and into a blind pocket, but he strokes that in imperiously. It's nip and tuck so far, and he goes into the pack off the blue soon after, freeing up the reds he needs to win this frame in rapid time.

Murphy 4-5 Wilson (20-0)

A superb long red from Shaun opens frame ten, and he's on the yellow. It's a decent chance if he can get the white around the black spot, and he duly does. There are a number of open reds to go for and the black goes to both corners. Shaun starts making hay, in the knowledge that one decent split on the remaining pack will end this one very quickly.

Murphy 4-5 Wilson

Frame ball black disappears, and an extra red for insurance goes into the bottom right behind it. Kyren eventually makes 59 and Shaun stays put; so concludes the first frame of the night.

Murphy 4-4 Wilson (14-52)

Kyren is mopping up what's available, and nudges his break up to 37 and just needs two reds and two high value colours to put this one to bed. It's the smoothest he's looked since the first mini-session.

Murphy 4-4 Wilson (14-21)

It's a scrappy start, as Shaun makes just eight before missing badly to the left middle, and then Kyren only chokes down a solitary red, losing position as he does so and missing a tough yellow as a result. Shaun then sinks red-blue, but misses another red, this time down the right rail. Bless this mess! This might change things though; Kyren gets back in, opens the pack off the blue, and they've landed very nicely indeed.

Murphy 4-4 Wilson (0-14)

Shaun has a yahoo at a long straight red to the bottom left. It's close, but it spits out, and lands over the yellow pocket to gift an easy starter to Kyren. Can he start this session like he did the afternoon one? A round the angles black to land him on his next red is a superb shot, but he then misses a simple red to the bottom left and he's gifted an opening to Shaun.

Here we go

They're baized, the boys, and we're about to get it popping. We had seven 60 plus breaks this afternoon, a similar standard of entertainment tonight would do very nicely. Kyren to break.

Where’s your money?

Flip a coin from here. Kyren, brilliant on Friday against Ding and then through the first four frames today, looked to be in charge but a stirring comeback from Shaun has levelled things up. We had a decider yesterday, don’t be surprised if these two take us deep into Sunday evening.

Good evening!

Welcome back to live coverage of the 2023 Tour Championship Final from Hull. After a topsy turvy afternoon session, Shaun and Kyren have turned this into a best of 11 for your consumption this evening. It’s 4-4, and with everything to play for; settle in with us for your Sunday night as we see it through.

That's us for now

Join us again at 6.45pm BST to see how it all pans out.

Streaky final

Kyren bossed it before the interval, Shaun was in command thereafter; if only someone would come up with a sporting analogy to sum up what we've experienced! At 4-0 Kyren looked to be cruising, but there's plenty of dog in Shaun who fought back and pinched a dramatic final frame of the afternoon when he looked for all the world that he'd go into tonight's session in arrears. We're all square, and what an evening we could be in for!

Murphy 4-4 Wilson

It's a huge chance now for Shaun, as a poor safety from Kyren leaves the red on to the left middle. Can Shaun dish? You bet he can! He mops up the red, a pink and all the colours to nick the frame and pull level in the match with the final black! What a comeback!

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (33-63)

Kyren takes the available points, and it's been a gritty 41 to give him the advantage. He then doubles down on it, landing a superb snooker tight behind the black with the remaining red in baulk. It's downright fiendish, but how about this - Shaun escapes off four cushions and knocks the red safe! Take a bow sir, we've still got a live one!

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (33-55)

Kyren is digging deep here. Position is a grind as he keeps catching the blue when he sends the white around the table, but he's making this chance stick and finally pots the pink to get it back on its spot. That opens up a red to the bottom left, which goes in, and from the ensuing pink he drops on the penultimate red along the rail. The final red, welded to the black and not on, should be the ball that decides this frame.

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (33-31)

A good safety from Kyren traps Shaun, who fails to connect from a multiple cushion escape and leaves a red to right middle. He'll do well to make anything significant here, as it's a horrid table. Sure enough, he can only manufacture 14 before losing position and playing safe. Kyren gets another chance immediately though, draining a red to bottom right and landing on the yellow. If he can somehow jar open a cluster of two reds, pink and black he'll have a shy at sorting the frame, and how about this - he's just launched a long blue to the green pocket to keep this going!

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (33-4)

From high on the blue Shaun goes into the reds, but it's a heavy contact and he lands on nothing. That's end of break on 33, and his safety leaves a path to a red to bottom right. Kyren chucks everything at it, but the red rattles out of the jaws and away. He's not left anything though, and with both players acutely aware of the importance of this stanza of the match, we're back on safety.

Murphy 3-4 Wilson (19-4)

Big frame ahoy! The standard had been immense this week in Hull, and it is not having an afternoon off here. We've had a 60 plus break in every frame thus far. Shaun gives up four when he misses a thin contact safety, but gets away soon after by forcing down a cut on a long red and landing on the green. It's a chance, and a compliant split on the pack here will give Shaun a shot at a fourth heavy visit on the spin.

Murphy 3-4 Wilson

A scrappy one, that, and it goes to Shaun. With the frame in the bank he lets his arm go a bit, mopping up the two reds on the bottom cushion and then all the colours for a 75 and the frame.

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (52-11)

Oof, Kyren's had one here. He needs two attempts to escape his self-inflicted snooker, and from the second of them he goes in-off. Shaun pots a tap-in red, gets the pink back on its spot with his next shot and there should be enough on now to secure a third frame in a row. It's 20 and counting already, and the final two open reds of the four will be enough.

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (24-11)

Kyren gets a let-off now, as Shaun carelessly leaves himself so close to the pink that he can't pot it and his break judders to a halt. For the first time today we get bogged down in safety, with the eight remaining reds all becoming tied up. Here's a chance for Kyren though, as Shaun amost flukes one in the bottom left but it hangs on the lip. Kyren plants another red onto it; he's in, but it's a mess of a table. As if to accentuate the point, Kyren soon lands touching on the green and his fledgling break is over.

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (17-5)

My word, what a fluke this is! Shaun jaws a long red out of the bottom right, it smashes into the underside of the black and then flies into the bottom left at a rate of knots. What a moment that could prove to be - Shaun is right in as a result, but will need to play off blue and pink as the black was launched up the table as a result of the fluke. Shaun's just going for this, and opens the reds good and early.

Murphy 2-4 Wilson (0-5)

It's a chance for Kyren at the start of frame seven, as he chokes in a red to the bottom right, but a poor shot on the green thereafter leaves him on nothing - or so it seemed! At the last second Kyren spots a plant he can make beneath the pink, and jabs it in. That's end of break now though, because he's failed to land on the pink and has to go back to baulk.

Murphy 2-4 Wilson

Kyren leaves a cut on the red to right middle, which Shaun tags in to end the argument. A few shots later and it's all over; a quick double hit from Shaun has changed the complexion of this final.

Murphy 1-4 Wilson (70-31)

A swift 30 goes down from Kyren before he lands his snooker on the final red. It's an easy escape, which Shaun manages, but with one snooker needed for Kyren to be able to tie this is in the balance given how well laid out the balls are for snookers.

Murphy 1-4 Wilson (70-1)

Frame ball blue goes, but Shaun can't then convert the insurance red required and Kyren returns to the table needing one snooker. He'll have a go at this, because the reds and high value colours he requires are there and he can go for the four-pointer off the final red. There's still some legs in this one.

Murphy 1-4 Wilson (56-1)

This is rapid fire stuff from Shaun, who notches a half-ton within minutes and the cue ball is barely moving around the table. Someone hasn't turned their phone of in the crowd - well done out there! - so Shaun pauses but now returns to see if he can pick off the two reds and colours needed to bank another one.

Murphy 1-4 Wilson (17-1)

Kyren glides in a long red to start frame six. He's nicely on the yellow, but hey now - he overcuts by a mile to its own pocket! Crikey, where did that come from? Shaun's not hanging about for the inquiry, and starts accumulating the points that could and should have been Kyren's. This could be a twist if Shaun can register another heavy visit, and he's just opened the reds up perfectly to set that up.

Murphy 1-4 Wilson

A cracking long red from Shaun, followed by the pink, puts the tin lid on this one. Somewhat belatedly, Shaun arrives in this final!

Murphy 0-4 Wilson (75-0)

Here's Shaun, and a few of these in the next hour or so will give us a lively evening session. He can't get on any of the five remaining reds to keep going, but the 75 banked there gets him a foothold in the match and leaves Kyren needing two snookers.

Murphy 0-4 Wilson (52-0)

By some distance this is Shaun's best visit of the day so far, as a black to bottom right brings up the half-century. A trademark long red to the green pocket allows him to hold for the black from his next shot, and he's only a few pots away from getting a quick frame on the board.

Murphy 0-4 Wilson (20-0)

We're back, and Shaun's long road back starts with a sweetly potted red to the bottom right. Within a few shots he's buzzing around the black spot, and a heavy visit here will make this final seem a brighter place. Shaun opens the pack with a nice red to the bottom right, screwing off the reds to land perfectly on the black.

Murphy 0-4 Wilson

Kyren's cooking alright, as he snags his second ton of the match. After landing brilliantly on the final red on the top cushion he goes on to make a 111, and strides off to the interval four frames in front! For the third time this week, he's wiped out the first mini-session to nil.
Time for a brew, and there's much for Shaun to think on. We'll be back in 15.

Murphy 0-3 Wilson (0-70)

Aye, this is a hammering so far. Kyren drives in a red using the extended rest, sending the pack all over, and lands nicely on the yellow. He wriggles that in - frame ball no less - and another red to follow draws a line under this one.

Murphy 0-3 Wilson (0-52)

Kyren's confidence is going north at a rate here. He has open reds to play on but opts to go into the pack off the blue, and they've opened up wonderfully for him. This coming interval will be snooker's equivalent of 'we don't want half-time' in football. His fourth half-century of the day is on the board already, and this is lights out snooker.

Murphy 0-3 Wilson (0-14)

It's a long haul match so Shaun won't be panicking just yet - he was 3-1 down to Selby early on yesterday. He will want to get on the board soon mind, so there's a heightened sense of importance about this final frame before the mid-session interval. The first chance falls to Kyren though, as Shaun misses a long tempter to the bottom right and leaves Kyren a red to the yellow pocket. Utilising the rest, Kyren jabs it in and he's off again. The path for the black to both corners is soon cleared, and there are points on the go here.

Murphy 0-3 Wilson

It's three snookers required for Shaun but it's Kyren that lands the telling one, forcing a miss from Shaun and then clearing up to the pink after being left a free ball. What a start here from Kyren!

Murphy 0-2 Wilson (31-65)

Shaun flukes a snooker - or so he thinks - behind the black. That doesn't bother Kyren though, who swerves around the black and snicks the red into the green pocket! A kick then means he misses the brown, and then after potting the yellow he misses a simple green. Kyren's falling over the line in this one it seems, but with the balls nicely placed for snookers Shaun will keep going.

Murphy 0-2 Wilson (31-62)

This is mightily impressive from Kyren, who helps himself to another half-century and then cuts in a tricky red to bottom right after splitting the last two reds. The green then disappears and, unbelievably, he doesn't run far enough to get on frame ball red and has to play safe. With all the colours on their spots, Shaun is still well in this.

Murphy 0-2 Wilson (31-36)

A delicate jab on a red to bottom right using the swan neck spider keeps Shaun's break going, but only for one more shot as he rattles the black violently out of the jaws of the bottom left. My stars, he gave that a wallop. Kyren's left with a tricky, off-straight red to the green pocket to get in, but get in he does and he quickly develops more reds and gets the black back on its spot. This will sting Shaun if Kyren pinches the frame at this visit, and it's looking ominous as he hits the front.

Murphy 0-2 Wilson (30-0)

Shaun hasn't got going yet, and badly misses a red to the bottom right at the start of frame three. That leaves Kyren a straight red to the bottom right from mid-range, but he rattles it out of the jaws and he's left it as a tap-in for Shaun. Can he get going now? Thirty points are on the board in no time.

Murphy 0-2 Wilson

It's a confident start from Kyren, who is moving around the table with a lovely rhythm so far. The frame is soon in the books, as is another half-century, and he empties the table again for a break of 84. The zone? Kyren's in that right now, I think it's fair to say.

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (0-56)

Now Shaun has a mare. In trying a dump shot to leave the white on the bottom cushion as a containing safety, he trickles the white into the bottom left and he may well have binned off the frame with that. There's a practice table out there now for Kyren to win the frame with, and he duly starts stitching his break together.

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (0-33)

Kyren's back in, with a red as a shot to nothing that leaves him a nice angle on the yellow to come back down the table. He then leaves an angle on the black to go into the pack; using the full set of cue extensions, he booms it in and the reds split beautifully. What's happened here, mind? In potting his next red he catches another first, which sends the white off to be welded to the bottom cushion with no colour on! That's end of break, and a huge let-off for Shaun.

Murphy 0-1 Wilson (0-21)

Shaun breaks in frame two, and from Kyren's safety that follows Shaun returns to the table angled in the jaws of the yellow pocket. What a touch for Kyren! Shaun tries a two cushion escape to rest on the pack, but it straightens up, hits the pink and leaves a red on. Kyren is away again, quickly rehousing the black, but an attempt to go in and out of baulk sees the cue ball clang into the yellow and it's end of break.

Murphy 0-1 Wilson

Can he ton up? Why yes he can! A stunning green to left middle ensures that it is so, as Kyren empties the lot for a 108.

Murphy 0-0 Wilson (20-65)

A nice plant to the bottom right, followed by a trip in and out of baulk off the blue, leaves Kyren with only red and black needed for the frame. He duly tidies up both, and he won't be stopping there either. This is impressive stuff from Kyren, who has picked up from where he left off on Friday.

Murphy 0-0 Wilson (20-28)

After slipping out of position slightly, Shaun misses a mid-range red to the bottom left and he's served up a chance for Kyren to fire back. Shaun's meagre lead is quickly wiped out, and although the black is tied up Kyren has relocated the pink to it's natural home and has that and the blue to work off. A few shots later, he nudges a red out of the road of the black to leave it on to the bottom right, and the frame is on for him now.

Murphy 0-0 Wilson (14-0)

Shaun gets away first, draining a long red and almost screwing the white straight into the right middle. Within a few shots he's developed the pink, and then a few more reds after driving another into the heart of the bottom right. Shaun's middling every pot so far, and looks in terrific touch.

Baizing Squad

Here they come, with Kyren striding out first, quickly followed by Shaun. It's first to ten for the title, and we'll have eight frames for you this afternoon. Let's get to it!

Head-to-head

Shaun has had the better of Kyren in earlier meetings, leading their series 7-4. The most epochal meeting between them was in the semi-final of the 2021 World Championship, where Kyren let an 11-6 lead slip and watched on in horror as Shaun won 11 of the next 12 to reach the final.

Warrior

Kyren has probably never played better in a multiple session match than he did in his semi-final against Ding Junhui, where he registered six centuries on the way to a 10-5 victory. Today is the chance for him to add to the five ranking events he’s won to date, and arrive in Sheffield bang in form. At the Crucible, he’s been in the last four in three of the last five seasons.

Magician

If Shaun’s a bit sleep deprived today it’s understandable. His semi-final with Mark Selby yesterday was an absorbing, epic struggle, settled in a decider after 11.00pm. He’s on for a Players Series double if he can win today, having already won the Players Championship in Wolverhampton back in February.

Welcome to Hull

Good afternoon, it's time for the final of the 2023 Tour Championship. It’s the tournament for the form horses, and it’s Shaun Murphy and Kyren Wilson that have nosed their way into the final today. The first to ten frames will bag the trophy, and a cool 150 large to splash around over the Easter holidays. The boys hit the baize in around 15 minutes, and it should be a belter.

Murphy withstands Selby fightback to set up Wilson showdown

Shaun Murphy withstood a typically dogged performance from Mark Selby to win a final-frame decider in the semi-final of the Tour Championship.
The 2005 world champion emerged from a titanic tussle with a 10-9 win to set up a final showdown with Kyren Wilson at the Bonus Arena in Hull.
It was a tense, high-quality affair with Murphy’s 59 in frame 19 – his eighth 50+ break of the match to his opponent’s nine – ensured his progression to the final of the season’s penultimate ranking event of the season.
Selby was staring down the barrel of defeat at 9-6 but, as is often the case with Selby, snooker’s marathon man produced near-flawless snooker to send the match to a final-frame decider.
But he was unable to seal another remarkable comeback in a career defined by remarkable comebacks.

Wilson makes six centuries as he crushes Ding

Kyren Wilson delivered a performance out of the top drawer to sink Ding Junhui 10-5 and power into the final of the Tour Championship.
The European Masters winner’s form has been trending in the right direction in recent weeks, and he followed his run to the semi-finals of the Players Championship last month by going at least one step further in Hull.
Ding arrived on the back of his win at the Six Red World Championship, but had no answer to the sensational play of his opponent.
