Neil Robertson will take a 5-3 lead over a resurgent Stuart Bingham into the evening session of the best-of-17 Welsh Open final at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.

13-time ranking title winner Robertson compiled breaks of 71, 69, 72 and 70 in a largely frustrating first session for 2015 world champion Bingham.

The Thunder from Down Under beat Bingham 5-0 in their last encounter at the German Masters just two weeks ago, and at 4-1 down, it looked as though Ball-run was on the verge of another handsome defeat at the hands of Robertson.

But Bingham, who had made 10 centuries en route to a second ranking final of the season, rallied to seize the initiative ahead of the evening session, with the 42-year-old taking two of the last three frames courtesy of breaks of 50 and 102 to cut the arrears to 5-3.

“At 5-3 down he’s probably quite happy with that because he’s pulled something out of the wreckage of a terrible afternoon for him,” Neal Foulds said in the Eurosport studio after the session.

The pair will play to a conclusion at 19:00.
