2002 world champion Ebdon faces a tough task to return to the scene of his greatest triumph in Sheffield. He meets world number 17 Ryan Day - winner of three ranking events this season - over the best-of-19 frames in the final qualifying round on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Day has only dropped three frames to reach this stage, coasting past Igor Figueiredo 10-2 and Mitchell Mann 10-1 in the first qualifying round.

2006 world champion Graeme Dott should have too much for world number 53 Mike Dunn, but 1997 champion Ken Doherty - who is ranked at 77 in the world - faces a real challenge against twice World Championship runner-up Matthew Stevens in a match for the ages.

They last met at the World Championship in the last 16 in 2006 with Doherty winning 13-8. Doherty last qualified for the Crucible in 2014 with Stevens failing to qualify over the past two seasons.

Three-times world championship semi-finalist Alan McManus - who last reached the semi-finals only two years ago - meets world number 30 Jack Lisowski with the career head-to-heads level at 2-2.

But Jimmy White’s hopes of making his first World Championship appearance in 12 years have ended.

The six-times world finalist, who made his last first-round appearance in 2006, lost his second qualifying round match to Joe Perry 10-5.

Perry goes on to face Mark Davis in the quest to appear at the Crucible. Davis was a crushing 10-0 conqueror of Michael Georgiou.

The 16 winners from Tuesday and Wednesday will go into a draw with the top 16 seeds on Thursday morning at 10am (BST) to determine the last 32 lining up at the Crucible.
