Barry Hawkins survives scare to beat RyanDay and lift World Grand Prix title

Day got off to the perfect start as a break of 55 helped him to take the opening frame.

However Hawkins, who has been in excellent form throughout the tournament, responded brilliantly with a break of 53 and then back-to-back centuries (114 & 102).

Day got one frame back but Hawkins hit a 129 to open up a 4-2 lead

Once again Day responded but Hawkins came back stronger with his biggest break of the match in a 141 and he moved three clear at 6-3 with a 97 just before the interval.

In the evening session Hawkins won three frames on the trot with breaks of 128 and 85 in the run as he moved to within one of victory.

However Day battled back with a break of 87 to make it 9-4 going into the mid-session break and after that he made 84 to pull one more back.

Things became interesting when another big break from day (92/98) made it 9-6 and all of a sudden it was Hawkins who looked under pressure.

He fluked a red in the 16th frame but once again it was Day who took control and he managed to close the gap to two.

There drama in the 17th when Hawkins failed to break out of a Day snooker and the balls had to be re-arranged. They seemed to be in perfect alignment to where they were before but Hawkins got out and he ended up taking both the frame and the match.
