World number Selby has not been beyond the last eight since winning the International Championship before Christmas, but looked in good shape as he set up a quarter-final meeting with Michael White, who enjoyed a 4-0 victory over Joe Perry in the last 16.
“I seemed to stamp my authority on the match from the start,” said Selby, who was not overly impressed with his form after claiming a 4-3 win over Jimmy Robertson in the last 32 on Wednesday.
"I have pride in my performance and if I’m not playing well I do get down on myself. I think yesterday’s performance was a kick up the backside.”
Selby contributed runs of 134, 56, 68 and 55 to swamp 2010 world champion Robertson, who was not allowed to get motoring at the Guild Hall.
There was impressive wins for Ding Junhui and Anthony McGill in making up the quarter-final draw.
Ding dumped Mark Joyce 4-0 in a high quality encounter. The 2016 World Championship finalist ran in 84, 60 and 134 for a 3-0 lead only for Joyce to produce a magnificent 140 in the fourth frame, the highest break of the tournament.
But the Chinese number one edged the fifth frame to complete an impressive victory.
McGill overcame Stuart Bingham by the same scoreline making fine breaks of 52, 67 and 125 to progress.
