In the late session, Masters champion Trump defeated Tom Ford 4-2.
The Ace in the Pack sealed his win with a match-high break of 100 as he eased into the quarter-finals where he will face the winner of Mark Selby v Noppon Saengkham.
Earlier in the day Mark Selby comfortable saw off Shaun Murphy with a 4-1 victory in the first round.
The world number one watched 2005 world champion Murphy produce breaks of 58 and 51 to win the opening frame, but found some of his very best form with knocks of 76, 63 and 63 helping him ease through with a bit to spare.
The three-times world champion will face the in-form Noppon Saengkham in the last 16 after the Thai player produced some impressive form in a 4-2 win over four-times world champion John Higgins.
The world number 33 opened with a 56 only for Higgins to respond with runs of 94 and 108 for a 2-1 advantage.
But Saengkham was in no mood for a defeat at runs of 103, 52 and 66 saw him ease through.
German Masters runner-up David Gilbert progressed to the last 16 after whitewashing Yan Bingtao.
The 37-year-old continued his fantastic form by hitting high breaks of 54, 118 and 81 as he swept the Chinese player aside in the opening round at Cheltenham.
Kyren Wilson, the man who defeated Gilbert in the Berlin final on Sunday, turned around a three-frame deficit to book his place in the last 16.
Wilson beat Matthew Stevens despite losing the opening three frames, winning the dramatic decider 72-59 after Stevens missed a vital black pot.
World number 24 Xiao Goudong progressed to the quarter-finals, despite losing the opening frame to Mark Davies. The 29-year-old won the following four frames with high breaks of 82 and 65.
Barry Hawkins eased through by beating Marco Fu 4-1 and setting up a quarter-final clash against the winner of Wilson v Bingham.
Teenage prodigy Yuan Sijun continued his fine form by knocking out Stephen Maguire 4-2 having beaten world champion Mark Williams in the first round.
