There were no such problems for Selby despite his struggles.
The world number one produced high breaks of only 75 and 52 in a scrappy match that will never be recalled as a classic due to the amount of unforced errors on display.
The key moment came in the sixth frame when world number 39 Jones snookered the three-times world champion on the final red having just contributed 53 to trail 3-2.
Selby did well to hit the red ball with a swerve shot, but was forced to hold his hands up as the red flew into a baulk pocket before he progressed to finish off the frame for a 4-2 lead.
Jones did not contribute a point in the seventh frame with Selby the dominant force to secure a last-16 joust with Noppon Saengkham, who completed a surprise 5-2 win over Ryan Day with a high break of only 53 in the seventh frame.
