Cameron Bolton celebrated his first-ever snowboarding World Cup win three years after breaking his back on the same course in Feldberg.
The Australian was delighted to take home the snowboard cross gold, a first World Cup win of his career in the Black Forest.
Germany's Paul Berg finished in second while Konstantin Schad steered home in third, but the race will be remembered for Bolton's emotionally charged return.
"It was a tricky race today and I am glad I was able to come out and do it", said Bolton.
"Three years ago on this course, I broke my back so it was really nice to be able to come away with the win.
"I feel like I have a little bit of redemption and to share the final with a couple of German riders on their home turf was nice."
