Elise Christie will return to the track for the first time since her Winter Olympic nightmare this weekend as the speed skating World Cup begins in earnest.
The triple world champion injured ankle ligaments in the 1500m at PyeongChang 2018, fell over in the 500m and was disqualified from the 1000m heats in February.
But after six months on the sidelines she is back this weekend at the opening round of five World Cup events.
"It represents where I want to get back to mentally, happy and ready to challenge the best in the world," she said.
Having only started full training not long ago I'm focused on knuckling down and getting back to my best self.
The opening World Cup event takes place in Calgary, Canada this weekend and builds up to March’s World Championships in Japan.
However, Christie will only compete in the new 2000m mixed gender relay – which will make its Olympic debut in Beijing.
Great Britain will face Poland, the Netherlands and Russia in the quarter-finals – with the top two progressing to Saturday’s semi-final and Sunday’s final.
