Alvaro Bautista bags seventh successive win of the season in Aragon

The Spaniard maintained his World Superbikes domination with the win in Aragon, ensuring his 100% win rate in 2019 is still intact.

Bautista delighted the home crowd by easing his way to victory in 33:14.114, with the closest challenger, Rea, finishing 15.170 seconds behind him.

The 34-year-old was superior to his opponents all day, setting the pace in qualifying with the fastest lap of 1:49.049. Sandro Cortese was second with a fastest lap of 1:49.414 and Tom Sykes joined them on the front row of the grid with a lap of 1:49.557.

Rea disappointingly finished in 10th place in qualifying, the worst result of his Kawasaki career, but the 32-year-old managed to recover from the fourth-row start on the grid to claim the runner-up spot in Race 1.

Rea was involved in drama from the start of the race with BMW rider Markus Reiterberger crashing out at the beginning of the first lap after clipping the bike of the reigning champion.

Eugene Laverty crashed on the last lap, clipping Chaz Davies' bike while trying to sneak a podium place, but the Team Go Eleven rider still managed to pick up his bike and finish the race to pick up one point for finishing.
