Leaders Chaz Davies and Jonathan Rea crash on final lap in dramatic World Superbikes finish
Chaz Davies and Jonathan Rea were involved in a nasty crash with three corners of the race left, gifting Tom Sykes victory in the World Superbikes in Misano.
Michael van der Mark had looked on course for a comfortable maiden Superbikes win, only to slide out with the win virtually in sight, almost taking Rea down with him.
But the biggest drama was still to come, with Rea crashing over the prone Davies on a tight corner as Sykes nipped inside from third position.
The initial reaction in Rimini was one of shock as Davies was stretchered from the course as Rea trundled through to a third-placed finish before stopping to check on his sporting rival at the side of the track.
And World Superbikes subsequently confirmed that Davies had been taken to Rimini hospital to continue the treatment he received at the side of the track.
