Commonwealth Games 2018: Adam Peaty beaten to gold in men's 50m breaststroke

England's Adam Peaty had to settle for a very rare second place behind South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh in the Commonwealth Games 50m breaststroke.

Peaty, who was the overwhelming favourite to add a second gold after his triumph in the 100m breaststroke earlier in the Gold Coast Games, suffered a very surprising defeat.
Van der Burgh took the gold medal in a time of 26.58 seconds, with the 23-year-old behind in 26.62 seconds.
"It was a great race. Credit to Van der Burgh," Peaty told the BBC. "I've been off my best all week.
"In April I'm never this fast so I'll take it as a positive and move on to the Europeans."
James Wilby, who took silver behind his England team-mate in the 100m breaststroke, took bronze in a time of 27.37 seconds.
Peaty said he was "nowhere near pleased" with his performance after his victory earlier in the Games and could not match Van der Burgh on this occasion.
The Englishman also lost out to Van der Burgh in the same event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games four years ago.
