Tennis news - Stan Wawrinka beats Milos Raonic in Rotterdam, Stefanos Tsitsipas crashes out

Stan Wawrinka knocked out fourth seed Milos Raonic and Damir Dzumhur ousted third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on a day of surprises at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.

Swiss veteran Wawrinka won in two sets against Canadian Raonic, triumphing 6-4 7-6 (4) in the second round.
Greek star Tsitsipas did not even make it that far, going down 6-4 1-6 7-5 to Bosnian Dzumhur in their first-round clash.
Wawrinka will meet another Canadian next after Denis Shapovalov beat Tomas Berdych 6-4 6-3.
Elsewhere in the first round, Daniil Medvedev beat Jeremy Chardy 7-6 (2) 6-2, Marton Fucsovics sank Martin Klizan 7-6 (4) 6-4 and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was a 6-1 6-4 winner against Thomas Fabbiano.
Gael Monfils won his second-round meeting with Andreas Seppi 4-6 6-1 6-3.
At the New York Open, top seed John Isner picked up his first win of 2019, serving up 27 aces as he dismissed Australia’s Bernard Tomic 7-6 (7) 6-4.
Isner will face another Australian in the quarter-finals after number seven seed Jordan Thompson recovered from a set down to beat America’s Christopher Eubanks 4-6 6-1 6-4.
Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi also made it into the last eight, fighting past America’s Ryan Harrison 4-6 6-4 6-4.
His next opponent will be Brayden Schnur, who dispatched third seed Steve Johnson. The Canadian saved two match points to claim a 6-4 4-6 7-6 (4) win.
Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic fell 6-7 (4) 7-6 (4) 7-6 (5) to Moldova’s Radu Albot in their first-round clash, while Denis Istomin booked a second-round meeting with Reilly Opelka after beating Mackenzie McDonald 4-6 6-2 6-3.
The day’s late game at the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires produced an upset, with Spain’s Jaume Munar downing second seed Fabio Fognini.
Despite losing the first set, Munar fought back to claim a 4-6 6-4 7-5 victory after two hours and 22 minutes on court.
His next opponent will be Guido Pella, who triumphed in an all-Argentinian clash with Leonardo Mayer, winning 6-4 1-6 7-6 (5).
Number three seed Marco Cecchinato is also safely through to the last eight with a 7-6 (4) 6-4 win over Christian Garin. He will now face Roberto Carballes Baena, who coasted past Lorenzo Sonego 7-5 6-1 to progress to the quarter-finals.
