Daniil Medvedev has slipped to world No. 7 after a difficult season where he failed to win a title, but he has looked impressive on the hard courts of Adelaide so far at the start of 2023. Medvedev is gunning for revenge at the Australian Open later this month after finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal on the last two occasions respectively.

Highlights: Djokovic gets warm welcome from fans as he loses first match since return to Australia

Daniil Medvedev looked razor sharp as he dismantled world No. 29 Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets to reach the Adelaide International quarter-finals.
Medvedev faced just a solitary break point as he dominated on serve to advance 6-0 6-3. He will face compatriot Karen Khachanov in the last eight.
The 26-year-old was forced to save nine set points in his opening win over Lorenzo Sonego, who retired hurt shortly after losing a first set tie-break, but there was no risk of Medvedev being dragged into another battle as he served up a hard-court masterclass.
The highlight came in the fourth game of the second set as he chased down a barrage from the Kecmanovic racquet, before hunting down a volley to make an outstanding passing winner.
“Yeah, I think it was a great match. Miomir is a tough opponent, a high-ranked player so there are no easy guys left in Adelaide,” Medvedev said.
“I’m not sure there were [any easy opponents] from the first round, so I'm really happy to be through, happy with my level.”
The Russian is chasing revenge at the Australian Open this year, having finished runner-up on the past two occasions. He surrendered a two-set lead against Rafael Nadal in Melbourne last January, then embarked on a disappointing season that saw him slip from world No. 1 to No. 7.
Khachanov progressed after seeing off Britain’s Jack Draper 6-4 6-2, while Yoshihito Nishioka saw off Mackenzie McDonald 6-4 6-3.
