Australian teenager Alex De Minaur claimed the biggest scalp of his career in the opening round of the Brisbane International.

The 18-year-old wild card, ranked 208th in the world, knocked out 44th-ranked American Steve Johnson 7-6 (9/7) 6-4 and will play fourth seed Milos Raonic in round two.

De Minaur is one of a group of highly promising young Australians and he reached the Wimbledon junior final in 2016.

There was also an upset in the other first-round match played on Sunday, with Alexandr Dolgopolov knocking out sixth seed Diego Schwartzman 6-4 7-6 (7/3).
