GAME, SET AND MATCH! – ALCARAZ 7-5 6-4 RUUD. He’s done it! An 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz becomes the third youngest male winner of a Masters 1000 title. He defeats the world number eight in one hour and 52 minutes to claim a first ever title at this level. He served it out to love, coolly volleying a winner before collapsing to the floor with joy.

ALCARAZ 7-5 5-4 RUUD. Serve-out question posed. Ruud shrugs off a double fault at 40-0 to give himself one last chance at turning this final around.
ALCARAZ 7-5 5-3 RUUD. Fist pumps galore. Alcaraz overcomes a wobble from 30-0 up to edge the game to 30 and move within one of the biggest title of his career so far.
ALCARAZ 7-5 4-3 RUUD. No danger that time around. Ruud stays in touch once again. Is this the calm before a stormy finale?
ALCARAZ 7-5 4-2 RUUD. The massage on the muscle near the hip doesn’t work wonders for Ruud and the delay does not hinder Alcaraz as he rattles through an efficient hold to stay firmly on course.

ALCARAZ 7-5 3-2 RUUD. Fine work from Casper. He surges to a love hold and will now sit down and have a chat with the trainer. He may need more than a magic sponge to turn this arond though.

BREAK! – ALCARAZ 7-5 3-1 RUUD. Lifeline? Perhaps – perhaps not, but Casper Ruud is not going down without a fight. He keeps plugging away and manages to nick one of the breaks back on a sixth opportunity as Alcaraz fails to consolidate the double break from deuce despite hitting back from 0-40.

BREAK! – ALCARAZ 7-5 3-0 RUUD. This could be done. Ruud fights back from 0-30 but lashes a forehand just long to cough up another break point. He can’t escape this time and Alcaraz has a set and a double break lead. A first Masters 1000 title looks very much on the horizon for the 18-year-old.
ALCARAZ 7-5 2-0 RUUD. As routine as they come. Alcaraz consolidates with a rapid love hold. Ruud looks like a beaten man right now. Can he find something from somewhere to change the narrative?

BREAK! – ALCARAZ 7-5 1-0 RUUD. It’s looking bleak for Casper now. He’s making some poor decisions at the end of rallies and Alcaraz is taking full advantage. The Spaniard breaks on a third opportunity to get Set 2 off to a flyer.

SET! - ALCARAZ 7-5 RUUD. Carlos gets the job done on his third set point after one hour and one minute but it was far from routine. He charges into a 40-15 lead but Ruud refuses to give up and takes advantage of some tight play from the teen to turn it around and force BP. Alcaraz saves it with a big serve and goes on to take the set at the third time of asking with a smash at the net.

BREAK! – ALCARAZ 6-5 RUUD. The teenager strikes at a pivotal moment! A stunning crosscourt forehand winner conjures up two break points and leaves Ruud with it all to do. A return long helps him save one but then the Norwegian hooks a forehand just wide and it’s now over to Alcaraz. He will serve for the first set.
ALCARAZ 5-5 RUUD. Oof! A let off for Carlos? It’s a scrappy hold as he just about avoids set point when a wonderful backhand up the line from Ruud lands just long. Alcaraz plays a smart point to notch up a hold from there and scamper out of danger.
ALCARAZ 4-5 RUUD. So, how do you the steady the ship when an energetic, enthusiastic teen has found his mojo? Ruud knows the answer. Hit more first serves. It nudges the board in his favour once more with the business end of the set very much upon us.
ALCARAZ 4-4 RUUD. All square! Ruud shows great sportsmanship when he offers Alcaraz a first serve after the umpire stated it should be a second serve following a disruption. The world No.8 tries to up the ante with a backhand winner at 30-0 before a double fault suggests he could yet make the game interesting and force deuce. Alcaraz is having none of it though and thunders a backhand up the line to make it three games on the spin.

BREAK! – ALCARAZ 3-4 RUUD. Here we go! The crowd erupts as Ruud flashes a clunky forehand way long to allow Alcaraz to break back on the second of two break points. After such a composed start, it’s suddenly the 23-year-old Norwegian looking a tad flustered.
ALCARAZ 2-4 RUUD. There’s no doubt Carlos has settled. He blitzes through a hold to 15 and you sense he’ll have a bit more to say on the Ruud serve before this set is done.
