London 2012 gold medallist Andy Murray will not defend his Rogers Cup title in Toronto next week to ensure he is fully rested ahead of Rio.
The 29-year-old hasn't played competitively since winning his second Wimbledon title and was just a spectator as Great Britain beat Serbia in the Davis Cup over the weekend.
Great Britain were still able to progress in his absence though with Kyle Edmund stepping up to the mark to win his two singles matches to help the team into the semi-finals.
British number one Murray intends to train in Mallorca before defending his Olympic title next month.
"My body needs some recovery time after reaching the latter stages of tournaments over the past few months," Murray said in a statement released by Tennis Canada.
"I'm sorry to my fans in Toronto but I look forward to being back in Canada next year."
The Rogers CUp takes place from July 23-31.
