Jo-Wilfried Tsonga battles into St Petersburg quarters as GB’s Liam Broady targets last four

Second seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga battled past Joao Sousa 7-6(1) 3-6 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals at the St. Petersburg Open.
Tsonga faces German Jan-Lennard Struff in the last eight after the 27-year-old strolled past Thomas Fabbiano 6-1 6-4.
Elsewhere, top seed Roberto Bautista-Agut bounced back from a second-set blip to beat Rogerio Dutra da Silva 6-4 4-6 6-0.
The Spaniard will play Viktor Troicki after the Serbian beat Guido Pella 7-6(3) 4-6 6-4.
Philipp Kohlschreiber retired from his match against Ricardas Berankis, who goes on to face third seed Fabio Fognini after the Italian’s 6-4 4-6 6-4 defeat of Mikhail Youzhny.
Great Britain’s Liam Broady, who knocked out fourth seed Adrian Mannarino on Wednesday, will target a semi-final spot when taking on Bosnian Damir Dzumhur on Friday.
Broady secured his first ever victory in the main draw of an ATP Would Tour event when beating Ernests Gulbis in the first round.
