Roger Federer eases past Stan Wawrinka to book final berth

Federer continued his impressive run of form and needed just 71 minutes to beat his countryman 7-5 6-3 in a much more straight forward clash than this time last year when he was forced to recover from a set down against Wawrinka to make the final of the season-ending championship.

World number one Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-3 earlier in the day to book his place in Sunday's final.

"A great match, I really enjoyed it," Federer said immediately after the win.

"It will be a perfect ending only if I win. Novak should be knocked out by now! No, I am joking. He played a great match against Rafael Nadal earlier today and I'm sure it will be a fantastic meeting."

Federer, forced to concede the final last year with a back strain sustained in his epic victory against Wawrinka, had opened the match with a confident hold of serve to love but quickly found himself trailing as Wawrinka broke in the fifth game after a little help from the net on consecutive points, the first helping his forehand bounce up into the face of Federer before a forehand from the world number three was carried wide after clipping the tape on the way through.

Wawrinka, almost impenetrable for the opening seven games, looked set to be cruising to the first set but completely collapsed on serve in the eighth game as a double fault and a couple of errors helped Federer get things back on level terms.

From there the world number three barely looked back, breaking again in the 12th game to seal the opener and again in the second game of the second set, as he cruised to victory in little over an hour.

Federer handed Djokovic his first indoor defeat in three-and-a-half years earlier this week and will be hoping to make it two from two when they meet in the decider on Sunday afternoon.
