So that was a slightly anti-climactic end to the past two weeks although Novak Djokovic was rock-solid today and was definately overall the best player of the tournament. And the wait goes on for Andy Murray
-
The final point just about sums things up for Murray as he dumps a forehand into the top of the tape to hand Djokovic his second Grand Slam title. Credit should go to Novak Djokovic. Okay Murray didn't play all that well but Djokovic did as much as he needed to do today, after a blistering performance against Federer three days ago

MURRAY 4-6 2-6 3-6 - GAME, SET & MATCH - DJOKOVIC IS THE 2011 AUSTRALIAN OPEN CHAMPION
-
MURRAY 4-6 2-6 3-5 30-40 - Murray dumps another forehand into the net, after doing well in a lengthy rally, to leave Djokovic just two points from the trophy. Two nervy forehands long of the baseline from the Serb let Murray back into it at 30-30 but the Brit catches the top of the tape with a cross court backhand and hands Djokovic a CHAMPIONSHIP POINT when the ball drops back onto his side of the net ...

MURRAY 4-6 2-6 3-5 - BREAK - That's more the Murray we have seen from this tournament as he runs wide to blast a forehand winner down the line. It even brings a smile to the Scot's face. But it's a temporary reprive as he then slaps a forehand long. And, despite a good backhand volley from Murray, Djokovic earns himself a break point with a forehad passing shot winner down the line. And sure enough he does break with Murray hits into the net. Djokovic will serve for the title ...

MURRAY 4-6 2-6 3-4 - Djokovic gets a little lucky as Murray sets himself up for a forehand volley only for Djokovic's ball to catch the top of the tape. Murray does well to re-adjust but his backhand volley drops long to allow Djokovic a game point and he goes on to hold with a foerhand winner down the line after running round the ball
-
MURRAY 4-6 2-6 3-3 - Murray looks like he might be cruising to a solid service hold before a slack backhand into the net hands Djokovic another break point. He saves it when the Serb hits a forehand return of serve into the net before Murray gifts him a second chance with a forehand about a foot long. But he saves it with a smash winner and goes on to hold with a off-forehand cross court winner

MURRAY 4-6 2-6 2-3 - BREAK - Just a few signs from Djokovic that he might get a little tight, although it could be a temporary blip, as he lets a ball bounce clearly thinking it's going wide only to have to hit another shot. It hands Murray break back points and sure enough he gets it when Djokovic sends a forehand spinning long of the baseline

MURRAY 4-6 2-6 1-3 - BREAK - Again Murray saves it with an ace and he saves a sixth with an explosive backhand down the line setting up a forehand winner. But he goes on to squander a game point with a backhand into the net before handing Djokovic yet another break chance with a little stumble at the net. And this time Djokovic does get the break by threading a cracking backhand passing shot down the line.

MURRAY 4-6 2-6 40-Ad - Murray slaps yet another forehand long to hand Djokovic two more break points. He saves them both, one with a foerhand winner and the second when the Serb hits long, before handing him a third chance with a forehand wide down the line. An ace saves him this time before he also saves a fourth with a solid first serve that Djokovic can't return before a reaction half-volley from Murray that lands just long of the baseline as a lob hand Djokovic another chance ...
-
MURRAY 4-6 2-6 1-2 - Djokovic seems to be back on track now as he holds to sneak out in front as another series of errors spew forth from the Murray racquet

MURRAY 4-6 2-6 1-1 - BREAK - A lazy forehand from Murray that lands both wide and long hands Djokovic two immediate break back points (and draws a few choice words from Murray). Only one is needed though as Murray fires a horrible overhead well wide to hand the Serb the break back

MURRAY 4-6 2-6 1-0 - BREAK - Murray slices a shockingly poor, very tired-looking forehand into the net before a forehand long from Djokovic followed by a forehand winner from Murray and the Brit has a break point. And sure enough he does get the break, flashing a forehand passing shot winner down the line. Will that give him the boost he needs?

Only once in his career has Novak Djokovic lost a match from two sets to love up and that was against Jurgen Melzer at the French Open last year. Murray has won from two sets to love down, bizarrely also against Melzer, but it's a big ask now against the world number three

MURRAY 4-6 2-6 - SET - Murray gets himself out of a potential spot of bother with a forehand winner at 15-30 down before a solid first serve (that Djokovic can only hit into the net) earn him a game point. But Murray slaps a forehand into the net to allow Djokovic to level up at deuce before the Serb finds a brilliant cross court forehand onto the line followed by a backhand winner to earn himself another set point. And he gets it, pushing Murray around the court and drawing the forehand error

MURRAY 4-6 2-5 - BREAK - Djokovic sends a forehand whistling long of the line down the line to hand Murray his first break points, three of them. But he only needs the one as Djokovic again sends a forehand long to hand Murray one of the breaks back. Is this the start of a comeback?! It would be outstanding if it was
-
MURRAY 4-6 1-5 - Djokovic races into the net before burying a shoulder-height forehand volley into the open court to earn himself a first set point in this second set. Murray saves it by working his way into the net and fire a forehand winner down the line and the goes on to hold with an unreturnable serve
-
MURRAY 4-6 0-5 - Djokovic races through another service hold to leave himself potentially just one game away from a two sets to love lead in this final. The Serb has flashed six winners in this set already compared to just two unforced errors. Murray in comparison has hit 11 unforced errors compared to just two winners. That pretty much sums it all up

MURRAY 4-6 0-4 - BREAK - This set is as good as over now as Djokovic catches the outside of the line with a pin-point forehand before Murray goes on to drop serve for a second time with a forehand into the net
