GAME, SET AND MATCH! – NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 7-5 MEDVEDEV. He’s done it! Rafael Nadal wins the 2022 Australian Open as he serves out at the second time of asking. It’s his second title in Oz to follow up his first back in 2009 and sees him move clear as the man with the most Grand Slam titles on 21. He came back from two sets down to somehow oust Medvedev after a classic five hour and 24 minutes. Incredible. Wow!

BREAK! – NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-5 MEDVEDEV. Another twist! Nadal somehow survives a barrage of huge serves. He has two bites at the break and then gets it done on the third as Medvedev thunders long of the baseline. Nadal will now serve for the title for a second time.

BREAK! – NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 5-5 MEDVEDEV. All square! Nadal races 30-0 up but then loses his nerve as he loops a forehand long. A double fault gets Daniil very interested and he dominates the next rally to earn break back point. Nadal gets a time violation and then slaps a tight backhand into the net. This title is still anyone’s.
NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 5-4 MEDVEDEV. Nadal sizzles a brilliant forehand winner up the line but can’t carve out a championship point despite being in the rally at 30-30. He will now serve for the title. How's your nerve Rafa? No.21 is on the line right now and holding serve hasn't come easily at all for the great Spaniard.
NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 5-3 MEDVEDEV. Somehow, Rafael Nadal is one game away from victory. Once again the Spaniard pays clutch tennis at the key moment as he holds to 30. Medvedev will now serve to stay in it.
NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 4-3 MEDVEDEV. Daniil cruises through a love hold. Nadal will be desperate for an easier one this time around as he looks to hang on. He’s looking rather weary now while Medvedev seems to have summoned energy reserves from somewhere.
NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 4-2 MEDVEDEV. What a game – what a final! Nadal sees a 40-15 lead flitter away and he goes through the motions from deuce, fending off a trio of break points before finally consolidating.

BREAK! – NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 3-2 MEDVEDEV. Nadal hits the front! Medvedev leans all over his big serve again but when it misses Rafa makes the most of his chances. A break point comes and goes but when the Spaniard gets a sniff at a second he corks a beauty of a forehand up the line. First blood to Nadal in the decider!
NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 2-2 MEDVEDEV. Nadal struggled with his serve so much early in this match but it works beautifully here as he eases through his own love hold.
NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 1-2 MEDVEDEV. It’s a love hold for Daniil. Rafa offers little pressure this time around and nearly hits the umpire with a stray return. There’s no damage though and they each share a good natured smile and chuckle.
NADAL 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 1-1 MEDVEDEV. Nadal can’t rely on the serve as much as Medvedev but he does enough to get on the board to 30. Both players clearly fatigued at this point. Could the stronger serve be decisive?
