Good morning, and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the women's singles final at the Australian Open between Sofia Kenin and Garbine Muguruza.

Well, we knew we would have a first-time Australian Open champion - we have a first-time Slam champion too. Congratulations to Kenin, commiserations to Muguruza - join us shortly for mixed doubles action as Jamie Murray and Bethanie Mattek-Sands take on fifth seeds Nikola Mektic and Barbora Krejcikova.

Garbine Muguruza gives an incredibly dignified speech, Sofia Kenin is overexcited but gets through her effusive thank-yous as she lifts her trophy.

Kenin is just being briefed on what's going to happen during the presentation ceremony.

Muguruza strides right over to Kenin's side of the court to hug her young opponent, who's in tears. Kenin climbs up to talk to her dad who's in the player's box before heading back out to wave to the crowd.

KENIN 4-6 6-2 6-2 MUGURUZA: Muguruza's serving so well in the first two points, and then hits two double-faults in a row. She looks like she might burst into tears as she gives away another point to hand Kenin championship point - but the American returns the serve long. One of the odd things about Kenin is she looks angry even when she wins a point, and she does that on the next, kicking at the baseline as she moves to her second championship point - and then Muguruza double-faults again.

KENIN 4-6 6-2 5-2 MUGURUZA: It's coming off the edge of Muguruza's racket now and she just cannot find her feet opposite the relentlessness of Kenin.

KENIN 4-6 6-2 4-2 MUGURUZA: Gritted teeth from Muguruza, using her smash and excellent serve to good effect. Then Kenin starts to push her more, making her make mistakes, and gets the luck of a net cord and then a double-fault from the Spaniard to give her the break.

KENIN 4-6 6-2 3-2 MUGURUZA: Three break points to Muguruza as Kenin moves to the net and looks set to send one sailing over, but instead hits it downwards. One saved with another great shot into the corner to Muguruza's right as they rally from their respective baselines; second saved with the same tactic; third saved by going down the line to the left. Advantage with an ace, and then Muguruza plays herself into trouble by going to the net and leaving so much space to her right, enabling Kenin to play down that side again to hold an unlikely service game.

KENIN 4-6 6-2 2-2 MUGURUZA: Kenin is going into the corners again, but Muguruza is looking happier on serve, hitting her sixth ace of the day, and then sending a smash down the American's throat to take the game.

KENIN 4-6 6-2 2-1 MUGURUZA: Kenin is sending Muguruza from side to side, but there are moments when she's still hitting too wildly. Both players are having moments in every game where they look absolutely furious with themselves.

KENIN 4-6 6-2 1-1 MUGURUZA: Muguruza takes it back to basics and looks more focused. Conchita Martinez is on her feet roaring her girl on. Kenin challenges on a point but goodness knows why, it's about half a metre out.

KENIN 4-6 6-2 1-0 MUGURUZA: Muguruza is mishitting all over the place and is looking puzzled by her racket.

The trainer is out for Muguruza.

KENIN 4-6 6-2 MUGURUZA: Muguruza is trying to keep the length on her shots but she's lost her radar, just hitting long time and again. Kenin is level and we're going three. What a set of tennis from the 21-year-old.

KENIN 4-6 5-2 MUGURUZA: The American will get the chance to serve out for the set - but she can level up with one more break of Muguruza. She's really battling - plenty of hollers and whoops.

KENIN 4-6 4-2 MUGURUZA: Good for Muguruza to put a stop to that run of games for Kenin. Both players are playing some superlative tennis in spells.
