The first Grand Slam of 2018 is almost upon us. Here is everything you need to know ahead of the Australian Open in Melbourne, plus injury updates on the stars.

WHEN IS IT?

The 106th edition of the tournament gets underway on Monday 15 January.
The men's final brings the fortnight to a close on Sunday 28 January.

WHERE IS IT HELD?

Melbourne Park hosts the Australian Open with Rod Laver Arena the stage for the biggest matches.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER GOING TO BE LIKE?

Very, very hot.
Temperatures frequently soar above 100 degrees Fahrenheit in Melbourne during the two weeks with players often citing the conditions after defeats.
The hottest Open on record was in 2009, when the average temperature was 34.7 degrees Celsius (94.46 Fahrenheit).

The official draw gets going at 8am UK time on Thursday, January 11.

WHO IS ALREADY OUT INJURED?

Two huge names are already out of the tournament with Andy Murray and Serena Williams both having had to withdraw.
Serena, the defending champion in the women's singles, pulled out on Friday after accepting that she could not be ready in time.
Murray, meanwhile, failed to recover from his persistent hip injury and officially withdrew on Thursday.
Kei Nishikori of Japan became the first player to rule himself out with a wrist injury, while Britain's Jo Konta (hip), Garbine Muguruza (calf), Rafael Nadal (knee), Stan Wawrinka (knee) and Novak Djokovic (elbow) are all doubts.
