WEDNESDAY'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • 1-Rafa Nadal (Spain) v Leonardo Mayer (Argentina)
  • 7-Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) v Duan Yingying (China)
  • Denis Shapovalov (Canada) v 15-Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France)
  • 17-Nick Kyrgios (Australia) v Viktor Troicki (Serbia)

MATCH OF THE DAY

  • Denis Shapovalov (Canada) v 15-Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France)
It doesn't feature the very biggest names in the men's draw but the second match on Margaret Court Arena threatens to be a classic. Tsonga is always entertaining fare and 18-year-old Shapovalov is the coming force in men's tennis. The Canadian sensation beat Tsonga in straight sets in the second round US Open back in August, so the Frenchman, now 32, is out to claim revenge.

POTENTIAL UPSET OF THE DAY

  • 23-Daria Gavrilova (Australia) v Elise Mertens (Belgium)
Gavrilova might have home advantage but she is only seeded 23 and is surely vulnerable against the world number 37. Mertens is also in fine form of late: last week she became the first ever player to win two Hobart International titles. She also defeated Gavrilova in the Hopman Cup in Perth right at the start of the year after coming from a set down. Mind you, Gavrilova defeated Garbine Muguruza in the quarter-finals of Sydney recently so will be no pushover.

BRITWATCH

  • Kyle Edmund (Great Britain) v Denis Istomin (Uzbekistan)
Fresh from his huge win over 11th seed Kevin Anderson in the first round, Edmund faces the world number 60 in an eminently winnable match. They will be shunted out on Court 13 at around 2am UK time but you can watch Edmund's progress live on Eurosport and Eurosport Player as he aims to take advantage of the draw opening up nicely for him.
