Wozniacki gallops into last eight
Caroline Wozniacki’s hunt for a maiden Grand Slam title continued with a 6-3 6-0 win over Slovakia’s Magdalena Rybarikova in the Australian Open fourth round. The Dane, a former world number one yet to taste victory in a Major, was in scintillating form on Rod Laver Arena as she raced through in 64 minutes.
Cilic sneaks through
Sixth seed Marin Cilic secured a four-set win over Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta. The 2014 US Open champion has been quietly building momentum in Melbourne and was again impressive, edging a contest that revolved around three tie-breaks 6-7(2) 6-3 7-6(0) 7-6(3).
Suarez Navarro reaches quarters again
Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro became the first player to qualify for the quarter-finals with a 4-6 6-4 8-6 win over Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit. The 29-year-old’s victory sees her equal her performances in 2009 and 2016, when she also reached the last eight.
Mertens progresses
Elise Mertens reached a maiden Grand Slam quarter-final as she saw off Petra Martic in the fourth round. The Belgian snuck through a tight encounter 7-6(5) 7-5.
