THURSDAY'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Stan Wawrinka (SUI) v 16-Milos Raonic (CAN)
  • 1-Simona Halep (ROU) v Sofia Kenin (USA)
  • 1-Novak Djokovic (SRB) v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)

  • Johanna Konta (GBR) v 18-Garbine Muguruza (ESP)

MATCH OF THE DAY

  • 1-Novak Djokovic (SRB) v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)
Novak Djokovic headlines the action on Rod Laver Arena; he found himself given a tough test by the USA's Mitchell Krueger on Tuesday, which upset his equilibrium.

Highlights - Djokovic battles into second round

He'll face off with France's ever-entertaining Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and though the top seed will expect a win, there might be a few spills along the way.

POTENTIAL UPSET OF THE DAY

  • 23-Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP) v Dayana Yastremska (UKR)
Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska is one to watch in the years to come. Just 18 years old, she won her first WTA title at the end of 2018 when she beat Wang Qiang in Hong Kong, and she's already taken out Australia's Samantha Stosur here in Melbourne - her first time in the main draw. The seeded veteran Carla Suarez Navarro will be very wary when they meet on Court 3.

BRIT WATCH

  • Johanna Konta (GBR) v 18-Garbine Muguruza (ESP)
And then there was one. Johanna Konta is the only British singles player left on either side of the draw - in these apparently post-Andy Murray days, we'd better get used to it. She plays Garbine Muguruza, whose form has been very up and down recently, but remains the 18th seed here. An on-song Konta has an excellent chance to progress.
