Tennis news - Naomi Osaka breezes through against Magda Linette
Updated 15/01/2019 at 13:45 GMT
US Open champion Naomi Osaka enjoyed a very comfortable start to her Australian Open campaign, breezing through against Poland's Magda Linette, 6-4, 6-2.
The 21-year-old displayed fluid motion and excellent shot-making during the late-night match on Rod Laver Arena, which took her just under an hour to complete.
The final game of the match was interrupted when a bug invaded the court, stopping Osaka from serving; a ball kid had to step in to protect her from it, much to the crowd's amusement.
Osaka, the fourth seed, will play 21-year-old Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia in the second round.
