Speaking after her victory, Williams said "I knew that, 'alright Serena, you've got to come out hot, you've got to come out firing'."
And come out firing is exactly what she did as she raced into a two-game lead in the highly-anticipated clash on Rod Laver Arena.

The American dominated Bouchard's serve throughout, with her only hiccups coming on her own misfiring serve - particularly in a fascinating first set in which Bouchard broke Serena's serve twice bur failed to hold her own.
But Williams tightened up her game even further in the second set to complete victory over an opponent who didn't even play that badly on the way to a convincing defeat.
In her on-court interview following the match, Williams said: "It wasn’t an easy match tonight - Genie has been to the finals of Wimbledon and the semis of other slams."
And the 37-year-old went on to talk about how much she has enjoyed the last year and her new life balance.
"I haven’t had many matches since last year but it’s ok, I got some time to spend with my daughter," Williams said. "It was great. I literally spent every day with her. I’ve always been told they grow up so fast. It meant a lot to me. I was really happy I was able to do that.”
Williams will face Dayana Yastremska in the third round.
