Broady failed to make the most of a fast start.
Liam Broady saw his hopes of reaching the main draw at the New York Open ended by Adrian Menendez Maceiras.
The Spaniard recovered from an unconvincing start to prevail 7-5 6-3 in one hour and 33 minutes.
Britain’s Broady broke instantly and led 4-1 in the first set.
But the Davis Cup player failed to take a set point at 5-4, and Menendez Maceiras never looked back as he rattled off three successive games and then dominated the second set.
