Switzerland moved to within one point of victory in their Davis Cup World Group playoff against Serbia on Saturday following a convincing doubles win for Roger Federer and Yves Allegro over Ilia Bozoljac and Nenad Zimonjic.
Federer and Allegro prevailed 7-6 6-4 6-4 win to put Switzerland 2-1 up going into Sunday's last two singles rubbers.
With Zimonjic ranked 11th in world doubles, the Serbs had been slight favourites for Saturday's encounter but after an evenly-balanced first set it was the Swiss who took control.
Taking the first set tie-break 7-3, the home pair broke in the opening game of the second when Allegro slipped a forehand winner through a gap left by his two opponents.
Federer then showed his trademark coolness with the world number one dropping just one point in his next three service games to seal the set.
A further break followed late in the third set, following a well-executed Allegro lob, allowing Federer to serve out the match with two successive aces.
Serbia's slim promotion chances now rest on the unlikely prospect of Federer suffering a major upset against world number 21 Novak Djokovic in the first of those meetings
