FEDERER 6-2 6-2 - More resilience from Davydenko, shame it has come so late, as he pulls it back to 30-30, but Federer with a big serve to bring up match point and he finishes off a very one-sided contest in less than an hour. The world number three storms into the second round.

FEDERER 6-2 5-2 - Davydenko just hasn't been at the races today. More unforced errors on his own serve undermine his challenge as Federer goes 0-30 up. Two big shots from Davydenko draw him level but a slip and a shot wide give Fed his first match point. That goes into the net for deuce. A bit of tit for tat but Davydenko wraps up the game with a sumptuous drop-shot.
FEDERER 6-2 5-1 - Davydenko fails with a challenge and then finds the net: 30-15 to Federer. The Swiss master then gives a forehand volley the full whack, with Davydenko only able to hit long, as he does on the following point to give Fed the game.
FEDERER 6-2 4-1 - BREAK! - Federer is the recipient of a very generous net cord to take a 30-0 lead on the Davydenko serve. At game point he fails with an appeal against an out call but still takes the game to break again.
FEDERER 6-2 3-1 - Davydenko still struggling to get any traction on the Federer serve at all. Fed holds to 15 as he sees out another game in fairly accomplished style. He isn't having to get anywhere near top gear at present.
FEDERER 6-2 2-1 - Davydenko seeks to steady the ship somewhat and opens up a 40-0 lead on serve before a second serve is returned into the net by Federer.
FEDERER 6-2 2-0 - Davydenko grabs a fairly rare point on the Federer serve with an unconventional forehand but normal service is resumed when a huge forehand finds the corner and then Federer tidies up at the net.
FEDERER 6-2 1-0 - Davydenko opens the second set with a double fault - not a great start. Fed opens up a 0-30 lead on the Davydenko serve before the Russian responds with a lovely passing shot. It is not enough though, and another double fault hands the world number three the game.
FEDERER 6-2 - An unforced error from Davydenko gives Federer a 30-0 foothold in the game but the Russian pulls a point back when Federer plunges a pick-up volley into the net. Davydenko threatens with a big return but it crosses the line. The first set is done in 20 minutes.
FEDERER 5-2 - BREAK! - Fed opens up a bit as he works his opponent round the court. Two nice forehands set Federer up to streak into a 0-40 lead and although he then finds the net, Federer snatches a second break to surely take a decisive lead in the first set.
FEDERER 4-2 - A love game for Federer. He has been pretty imperious on his serve so far and Davydenko has hardly had a sniff.
FEDERER 3-2 - A bit of back and forth as Davydenko continues to gain more of a foothold in the match and a serve of 195kmph sees him hold to 30.
FEDERER 3-1 - Federer opens up a 40-0 lead when a wild, wild forehand from Davydenko flies miles out. Handed a decent chance to finish the game though, he surprisingly puts the ball into the net from the service line. A volley then shoots long but an ace gives Fed the game.
FEDERER 2-1 - Much, much better from Davydenko. He won't allow Federer into any lengthy rallies and when the Swiss goes long with his return on the second serve it hands Davydenko the game to love. That is an impressive response.
FEDERER 2-0 - The second service game proves almost as easy. A combination of big serving and some loose shots from the Russian see Federer hold to 15. He wraps up the game with a quite brillant cross-court forehand. That's the Roger we know and love.
FEDERER 1-0 - BREAK! - Federer is quickly into his stride with one of those classy backhands right into the corner of the court, and a shot to the net and one off the frame from Davydenko see the Swiss open up a 0-40 lead. Davydenko goes long as Federer wastes little time breaking to love.
Davydenko to serve first. Here we go...
That 2011 final was their previous meeting and both men struggled with consistency over the calendar year. Federer, though, remains the class act of course. The warm-up is coming to an end.
The head-to-head record does not make pleasant reading for the Russian, who has been defeated on 15 of the 17 occasions they have met in the past. Davydenko did win this tournament in 2010 though, and was beaten by Federer in the final last year.
