FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 6-7 - Monfils sends a backhand well wide, even of the tramlines, to hand Ferrer a break point in this 13th game ... -

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 6-6 - Ferrer pegs Monfils back working up to the net and firing a forehand down the line after running around the ball. A smash winner across court hands Ferrer another game point and this time he goes on to hold when Monfils sends a backhand return wide off a very good serve. No tie-breaks in the fifth set, remember.

-

Monfils takes a first point off the Ferrer serve with a backhand winner down the line after working his way into the mid-court and then a second with a vicious forehand winner across court. And Monfils levels at deuce with a backhand down the line that goes wide. And Monfils will have a third match point when Ferrer sends a backhand volley into the bottom of the net ...

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 5-6 - Monfils holds to love after a forehand into the net and a forehand long from Ferrer helps him on his way. That gets the French crowd going once again and Ferrer will have to serve to stay in the match for a third time after the change of ends

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 5-5 - Since going match points down, Ferrer has not put a foot wrong as he holds to level up with a backhand winner across court after pushing Monfils wide across the other side of the court. Can Monfils recover his composure?

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 4-5 - BREAK - Ferrer completely mis-times a forehand and hits high up into the air to hand Monfils two match points. The Frenchman squanders the first as he hits a forehand into the net despite having Ferrer on the run. And he also fails to take advantage of the second with a tight backhand into the net. And Ferrer goes on to set up a break point with a forehand down the line after running round the ball. And he does break back with a backhand passing shot winner

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 3-5 - Ferrer plays a very risky backhand drop shot at 30-30. But it comes off as Monfils fails to get up the court quick enough and the Spaniard goes on to hold when Monfils hits into the net. The Frenchman will still have the chance to serve out the match next though

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 2-5- Despite dropping the first point of the game with a backhand wide down the line, Monfils leaves himself potentially just one game away from the quarter-finals with a hold to 15, sealed when Ferrer sends a backhand long down the centre of the court

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 2-4 - Ferrer stops the run of games against him with a hold to 15. The Spaniard fails to take advantahge of his first game point but gets it at the second attempt when he races into the net and forces Monfils to go for the passing shot down the line, which the Frenchman misses wide

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 1-4 - Monfils races through a service hold to consolidate the break, much to the delight of the crowd

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 1-3 - BREAK - A stinging forehand winner across court from Monfils denies Ferrer on a first game point and the Spaniard squanders a second with a forehand just long and the Frenchman goes on to earn himself a break point after his forehand catches the top of the tape, bounces up by about a metre and then drops on Ferrer's side of the net. And the Frenchman does break with a sensational forehand return of serve down the line after running around the ball

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 1-2 - Much better from Monfils as he starts to get people involved in the match with a comfortable service hold to sneak back out in front in this set

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 1-1 - Ferrer thinks he's sealed a love service game although Monfils queries the Spaniard's final forehand and gets the call overturned after umpire Jake Garner comes down from the chair to keep the mark. But Ferrer holds at the next point when Monfils hits long

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 0-1 - Monfils saves a break point with a huge forehand winner before yelling at himself. That's the first sign we've seen today of the Frenchman trying to whip himself up and he goes on to hold with a huge ace and an unreturnable serve

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 6-1 - SET - Ferrer manages to squander his first two set points but he makes no mistake on the third as he finds a great first serve that Monfils can only return into the net. This one will be decided by a fifth set

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 5-1 - Monfils posts a love service hold, throwing in an ace whilst he's at it, to at least force Ferrer to serve out this fourth set ...

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 5-0 - Ferrer holds to 15 without any trouble at all as Monfils once again slaps a forehand well long. The Frenchman will have to serve to stay in this set after the change of ends

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 4-0 - BREAK - Monfils has made a pretty re-start to the match as he slaps long to hand Ferrer the double break in this fourth set. Surely, it's going to a fifth now?

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 3-0 - Ferrer works his way into the net and drills a backhand volley winner across court to earn himself two game points. The first goes begging when he hits into the net but the Spaniard does hold at the second attempt, to consolidate the break, when Monfils sends a forehand just wide down the line

-

Ok, then so David Ferrer and Gael Monfils are just about ready to come back out on court and resume their clash. Monfils leads by two sets to one but Ferrer is a break up in this fourth set

-

Ferrer is convinced that it is too dark to continue and Monfils does not put up any kind of a fight as they get the tournament referee on to the court. He agrees and the match will be suspended until tomorrow due to he failing light

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 2-0 - BREAK - Monfils hit a backhand long whilst going down to hand Ferrer a break point and it is a break point the Spaniard takes full advantage of it with a backhand passing shot down the line

-

Monfils goes down at the back of the court and he stays down, cleary in some pain. Umpire Jake Garner goes down to check he is okay while David Ferrer also crosses over to the other side of the court. But it looks as though Monfils is not too badely hurt and he will be able to continue

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 1-0 - Ferrer denies Monfils on a break point with a forehand down the line after being pushed wide. A double fault from the tiring Spaniard hands Monfils a second chance but saves it with an absolutely fantastic drop shot. And the Spaniard goes on to hold with a forehand winner

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-7 - Monfils to serve out for the set. Ace right down the middle for a 30-15 lead. He nets a backhand and the game is level. Fabulous serve and he now has set point...Monfils finds the line, just, after serve-volleying, but that is the set.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-6 - Ferrer nets, Monfils miss hits, Ferrer nets, Monfils miss hits; 30-30. Tense game this as Monfils threatens to break. Monfils can't get the serve back in, but Ferrer hits long for deuce. Second deuce and Ferrer is attempting drop shots against possibly the fastest man on the tour that are just not coming off. Break point...Ferrer saves it by going back to basics and getting Monfils on the run. Great return and another break point. Monfils gets it as Ferrer puts into the net

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-5 - Good depth on the return from Ferrer as he gets himself back into this game. An ace from Monfils though and he can level...lovely volley and this set is all to play for.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 5-4 - Monfils hits a forehand that gets faster as it moves and smashes into the back wall for a clean winner. Ferrer can't return a pass from the Frenchman, but he digs in and holds following a netted backhand from Monfils.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 4-4 - Monfils bides his time, then unleashes the backhand down the line. A bent return of serve from Ferrer and he levels the set.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 4-3 - BREAK! Monfils goes 0-40 up, but Ferrer slaps down an ace to reduce the arrears. A poor forehand from Ferrer, he concedes the break and he's furious with himself.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 4-2 - BREAK! Monfils leaves far too much space for Ferrer to play into. Amazing rally which lasts 35 shots is won by Monfils, but he can't prevent a break point, and then the break.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 3-2 - Disappointing end to the game for Monfils and Ferrer leads in this fourth set.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 2-2 - Monfils constructs a wonderful point and hits a forehand crosscourt winner. He hits a double fault, though it shouldn't matter as he's well in front. Maybe it will matter...Ferrer pulls off a Monfils-esque pass and a forehand winner and it's suddenly deuce. Ferrer nets an easy volley however and Monfils clings on.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 2-1 - Monfils finds the line off the net cord and draws level, but Ferrer races ahead and holds serve to 15.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 1-1 - Monfils gets back to something like his former best in this game, winning to love.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 1-0 - It's easy for Ferrer at the minute as he holds serve to 15, most of the points courtesy of bad Monfils errors.

-

FERRER 4-6 6-2 - Monfils breaks a racket as he loses the first point. Another awry backhand and Ferrer moves closer to the set, but Monfils replies with a booming first serve. The opposite happens with a double point and it's now set point...and an inept backhand goes halfway up the net.

-

FERRER 4-6 5-2 - Another break maybe? Monfils is up 0-30 and Ferrer then hits wide. That's three break points, reduced to one after a couple of missed opportunities. A third drifts away after another long ground stroke. Easy put away from Ferrer and he gets a huge hold of serve when he really shouldn't have had the opportunity.

-

FERRER 4-6 4-2 - BREAK! Ferrer clips the line with the volley to draw level and Monfils hits just long to give Ferrer a break point. Another very similar error from Monfils and that's the third break in a row.

-

FERRER 4-6 3-2 - Monfils changes tack and plays patiently, drawing the errors from Ferrer. Monfils does brilliantly to get a ball, but Ferrer volleys the return nicely. Again Monfils outlasts Ferrer and a break back point. Extraordinary pass with another of those backhands into the corner and Monfils leaps for joy at the break.

-

FERRER 4-6 3-1 - Bad error from Ferrer who has a chance to go up0 0-30, but puts into the net. Double fault, but Monfils dips a forehand down the line to pass Ferrer. Strong hitting from Ferrer gives him a break point. An extremely weak backhand from Monfils in an insipid conclusion to that game.

-

FERRER 4-6 2-1 - Some erratic hitting from Monfils now, who won't want this dip in form to last long. Ferrer holds to love.

-

FERRER 4-6 1-1 - Monfils whips a forehand right into the corner and follows it with an ace. The Frenchman levels.

-

FERRER 4-6 1-0 - Ferrer you can guarantee will keep his consistency, so it all really depends on Monfils. If he keeps this form up Ferrer surely won't be able to live with him, but he's notoriously inconsistent. Another of those brutal backhands and it's deuce. Double fault and break point...but a pinpoint inside-out forehand levels and the same shot gets him the advantage. Ferrer dropshots the dropshot and holds.

-

FERRER 4-6 - Monfils gets some cheap points here. Double faults with the second serve nowhere near going in. Long return of serve and he has two set points. Bang, an ace down the middle and that was easier than expected.

-

FERRER 4-5 - Monfils is making Djokovic's down the line backhand look like mine. They're brutal, and he hits another one here. A break of serve and he will take the set. A lucky net cord draws Ferrer level, and some good work at the net puts him up. Monfils will have to win it on serve.

-

FERRER 3-4 - More clean winners from Monfils as he goes on the attack. He gets to deuce. Mofils can't take an overhead and the Frenchman again has a chance to break. Poor return of serve and it's level. Skewed forehand from Monfils and advantage Ferrer, but ANOTHER devastating backhand from the ninth seed and it's all square. Ferrer has none of it, taking the next two points and holding.

-

FERRER 2-4 - Another blistering backhand winner from Monfils, but matched in the next point by Ferrer, who creates double break point and breaks when he plays a drop shot Monfils can't reach.

-

FERRER 1-4 - BREAK! Three break points as Monfils hits one of the fastest ground strokes you will ever see. Two winners from Ferrer, but a very poor attempt at a drop shot gives Monfils the double break.

-

FERRER 1-3 - Another forehand winner and the fastest serve of the match so far and Monfils completes the break.

-

FERRER 1-2 - BREAK! Monfils with a consumate hold to love. Monfils is a bit up and down with his hitting, but outlasts a usual Ferrer speciality in winning a 36 shot rally! Two break points and Ferrer hits a forehand into the net for the break.

-

FERRER 1-0 - Monfils hits a languid backhand winner then Ferrer double faults for a break point to Monfils. Ferrer comes to the net, which is enough to put Monfils off. Monfils with another backhand winner, this time off the return of serve. Ferrer works an advantage, but nets for deuce. A wild forehand that doesn't even make the doubles court from Monfils gives Ferrer the opening game.

David Ferrer takes on Frenchman Gael Monfils. Monfils has won both their previous meetings, one being here at Roland Garros in '08.
