GAME, SET AND MATCH FEDERER! After two hours and 34 minutes, Federer brings up five match point courtesy of some stunning play in the breaker. Monfils saves the first one before Federer hits the net from deep on the second match point. He can't hold off Federer in the next point as the Swiss player reaches his sixth French Open semi-final. He will face Novak Djokovic in the last four on Friday.


Federer again flirts with the prospect of a fourth set after trailing 30-15 in the 12th game, but he steadies himself to level at 6-6 with a couple of classy winners. We head for the breaker.


Federer cannot seem to put Monfils away. More break points come and go for Federer, who must be wondering what he has to do to get over the winning line. Going for almost two hours and 25 minutes and Federer has converted only 5 out of 16 break points.


Federer quick to spot the danger after Monfils had got to within two points of forcing the fourth set by leading 30-15. Federer favourite, but he is not reaching the highs of the opening two sets. Monfils battling well. He serves at 5-5.


An epic game threw up numerous chances for both men, but Monfils digs deep to hold serve with a couple of quality serves. Federer will serve to stay alive in the third set.


A smooth, smooth service game from Federer as he holds to love. Pressure back on Monfils immediately as we reach the business end of the set.


Monfils not going away out there. Subjected to a tough examination on his serve in that game, but he comes out the other end with his serve intact. He leads 4-3. Games on serve.


A couple of ill-timed shots from Federer, but he is always the more composed player in the main points. He holds to level at 3-3. Home crowd still can't get involved in the heat of the action.


A rare love game for Monfils as Federer suddenly throws in a loose one. We remain on serve, but Federer is giving Monfils encouragement that didn't look likely a few games ago.


BREAK TO MONFILS! Superb response from Monfils to break back. Really striking the ball with some authority. The home fans really warming to that effort from the home hope.


Huge game for Monfils. He had to hold in that one and he does the business to stay alive in this match. A break down, but has time on his side at least in the set. Monfils with 21 errors in the match compared to 11 from Federer.


A love game from Federer. Really beginning to look like a formality unless there is a massive sea change. Federer seems to have too much class for his opponent.


BREAK TO FEDERER! Monfils really feeling it out there. He cuts a frustrated character in the wind as he lets out an almighty scream when one shot goes wrong. Federer tucks away a winner from mid-range moments later after five deuces in the game. Suddenly Federer with another break.


GAME AND SECOND SET FEDERER! Monfils pushing the boat out in going for the lines. Can't make his shots as Federer brings up three set points. A couple of sloppy shots gives Monfils hope, but Federer gets the job done in the next point as Monfils pushes a shot long from deep. Federer leads 2-0 in the match. Long way back for Monfils.


The clay really starting to gust up moments after Monfils does the necessary by holding serve to close to 5-3. Monfils looking for a break in this wind. Needs some break from somewhere otherwise Federer will lead 2-0 in this match. The Swiss master serves for the set.


A love game from Federer. Monfils looking far from happy out there. He is calling for the trainer to have a look at his fingers or hands. His main problem in this match is the superior play of Federer, who needs one more game for a 2-0 lead.


BREAK TO FEDERER! An astonishing game. Both men miss chances to win points with seemingly simple shots - Monfils misses an overhead smash with the court gaping - but Monfils falters in the wind at the crucial time. He throws his racket in disgust. Federer suddenly in the box seat again.


BREAK TO MONFILS! Monfils grabs the initiative from 30-30 to break Federer for the second time in the match. Comes to the net to punch away a delightful winner. Monfils not lacking flair, but he needs to discover some fight.


Monfils stops the bleeding to close to 3-1 behind in the second set. Monfils looking for some inspiration from somewhere. Has been a solemn display from him so far in front of his own fans.


Federer moves three games clear in the second set. Monfils was gifted an early break by Federer in the first set, but has hardly had a look-in on the Swiss player's serve since that stage. Dangerous times for the Frenchman.


BREAK TO FEDERER! This already has an air of inevitability about it as Federer breaks Monfils to move 2-0 clear in the second set. Almost looking like an exhibition match at the moment as the French crowd are wrestling with their stunned silence.


Federer holds serve in the opening game of the second set. Monfils is struggling to devise a strategy that will unsettle the 2009 French Open champion. Federer looking too strong at this point in time.


FIRST SET TO FEDERER! Federer revelling in the conditions as he brings up two set points aided by a lovely variety of shot. Spinning the ball and the disguise is enough to leave his opponent off balance. Monfils lumps a forehand wide of the target from deep and in 42 minutes, Federer is one set up.


Federer picks off another service game to love after the struggles Monfils endured in holding in the eighth game. 38 minutes gone as Monfils serves to stay in the set.


An engrossing game there. Federer with three chances to break, but somehow Monfils survives the storm. He holds serve to level at 4-4. Federer missed a chance in that game. The home crowd revelling in Monfils' undoubted quality.


Federer slowly going through the gears out there as he polishes off his service game to eke out a 4-3 lead. Has been a slow start by Federer, but from nowhere he wins three straight games despite making 12 unforced errors in seven games.


BREAK TO FEDERER! What a way to break back for the artful Roger. Monfils is long with a groundstroke to hand Federer the chance to break. The Swiss star completes the job with a wonderful diving volley at the net. Stunning stuff. Federer at his best. We are back on serve.


Better play from Federer in that game. The serve working with its natural fluency as a serve out wide is dumped into the net by the French player. Not sure if there is going to be rain, but the wind is not going away. Monfils to serve holding a break.


Early days in this one, but there is no doubt that Monfils is handling the wind out there a lot better than Federer. 12 minutes gone, but promising early signs for the home hope. How long will it take for Federer to settle?


BREAK TO MONFILS! A poor service game from Federer as he is broken to love. Couple of sloppy shots and an error on serve hands the iniative firmly to Monfils early on. The French player looks a bit surprised to be a break up so soon.


Monfils sporting a jazzy combo of purple shorts and purple shirt, but he is in the pink in the second game of the opening set as he pockets it to level at 1-1. Monfils has the support of the home fans. We remain on serve early on.


The wind is fairly getting up out there. Federer lose a couple of points, but retains his composure sufficiently to hold serve in the opening game of the match.
