Dominic Thiem got his French Open campaign off to a terrific start as he eased past Bernard Tomic 6-4 6-0 6-2.
Thiem looked in good form from the off and once he got his break in the sixth it looked certain that he would go on to take the first set, and he did just that.
Any hopes that Tomic had of getting back into the match ended as Thiem completely blew him away in the second, as some immense hitting saw him bagel his opponent.
In the third Thiem broke in the third game and Tomic had no answer for the young Austrian.
The highlight of the match came in the third set when both players produced some incredible tennis in a remarkable point.
"I am happy I had a good start," Thiem said courtside after the match, though in truth he might have preferred a tougher workout in keeping with his ambitions for the tournament.
Thiem landed 11 aces in the match and certainly lived up to his pre-tournament billing.
After an impressive start to the clay campaign Thiem was spoken about as a possible challenger to Rafa Nadal in Paris, something that was cemented when he defeated the Spaniard in Rome.
