Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic progress to third round, Denis Shapovalov out

Dominc Thiem held off a challenge by Stefanos Tsitsipas to progress to the third round of the French Open in Paris, on Thursday.

The seventh seed took the first set 6-2 but the Greek no.1 fought back to claim the second 6-2.
Thiem avoided an upset by the 19-year-old, ranked 39th in the world, to win the next two sets 6-4 each.

Highlights: Thiem beats Tsitsipas

Tsitsipas had beaten Thiem in Barcelona in the build-up to Roland Garros and was bidding to become the first Greek man to reach the third round of a Grand Slam since 1969.
Thiem, beaten by Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals last year, will face Italian Matteo Berrettini on Friday.
Elsewhere third seed Marin Cilic was not able to beat world no.188 Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets, losing the third on a tie-break after initially taking a 6-2 6-2 lead.
Winning the fourth set 7-5, it was CIlic who ultimately progressed to the next round.

There was a shock result as exciting Canadian Denis Shapovalov lost in four sets to world No. 70 Maximilian Marterer.
Shapovalov went down 5-7 7-6(4) 7-5 6-4 to the German.
