Jelena Ostapenko stunned the world last year in Roland Garros and although she has struggled since her victory she's still one of the favourites when she's on clay. Ostapenko is always fantastic to watch when she is firing and she'll have the backing of the crowd.

David Goffin comes to the tournament eight in the rankings, and with many of the traditional big hitters out of the men's game, a tilt at the semi-finals - at least - should be his ambition. However, in his way stands Robin Haase. His current ranking may be just 53, but 31 years of experience means Goffin cannot go into the match full of complacency.

Johanna Konta is the only Briton in action today, and she should be fine to progress to the second round against Yulia Putintseva. The time is approaching for Konta to step up in the Grand Slam events, and the French Open would be a way to find momentum before she reaches the home support of Britain for Wimbledon later in the summmer.
