Johanna Konta beats Kirsten Flipkens to reach Miami Open third round

British number one Johanna Konta eased into the third round at the Miami Open following a straight-sets win over Kirsten Flipkens.
The defending champion and 11th seed was in great form as she served eight aces and won 76 per cent of points on her first serve to move past her Belgian opponent with a 6-4 6-3 triumph in 84 minutes.
Konta, who received a first-round bye, will take on the winner of the match between American wild card Bernarda Pera and another Belgian – and number 22 seed – Elise Mertens in the next round.
Earlier on Friday in the men’s tournament as Liam Broady crashed out following a second-round defeat to Filip Krajinovic.
The 24-year-old Briton, who saw off American Bjorn Fratangelo in the opening round for his first-ever Masters match win, slipped to a straight-sets loss against the Serbian – ranked 27th in the world.
Qualifier Broady, ranked 138 places below Krajinovic, was beaten 6-3 6-2 in 69 minutes and continues the wait for his first career title.
