Australia’s Nick Kyrgios progressed to the quarter-finals of the Mercedes Cup with a 6-4 4-6 6-3 victory over German Maximilian Marterer.

The fourth seed will next face Feliciano Lopez, the eighth seed from Spain who defeated France’s Gilles Simon via a 7-6 (8/6) 6-4 scoreline.

There were also straight-set victories for Czech third seed Tomas Berdych, who overcame Benoit Paire of France 7-6 (7/3) 6-4, and Canada’s Milos Raonic, who defeated Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics 6-2 6-4.

Seventh seed Raonic and Berdych meet in the pick of Friday’s quarter-finals, when Argentinian Guido Pella will be rewarded for his 7-6 (7/4) 6-3 victory over Prajnesh Gunneswaran by facing Roger Federer.

At the Libema Open in Holland – like the Mercedes Cup, another competition played on grass – France’s Richard Gasquet defeated Evgeny Donskoy of Russia 6-2 6-2.

There were further victories for Stefanos Tsitsipas, of Greece, via a 4-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-2 scoreline against Tunisian Malek Jaziri, Jeremy Chardy, who defeated fellow Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-4 6-4, and American Mackenzie McDonald, who defeated Alex Bolt of Australia 6-4 7-5.
