It’s edgy stuff but Ons keeps Pegula bay to maintain her advantage. That finish line is creeping closer.

J-Peg refuses to let Jabeur pull clear, particularly looking at how up and down her temperament has been out there. Ons is 0-4 in deciding sets in finals so she may well get nervy.

We have a hold! It’s not exactly routine but the Tunisian gets the job done from deuce to put herself in the box seat in the final furlong of this showpiece occasion.

Typical! All the talk is of the momentum being firmly with Pegula, but Ons gets her mind right to unlock the American’s defences and swing the pendulum her way with a break to 15.

It’s the bagel and we are all square. Jabeur dumps a drop-shot attempt into the net and J-Peg levels on her second set point.

Where has Jabeur gone? She’s snatching at shots making quick, rash decisions that are costing her cheap points. Pegula stays rock solid to consolidate the double break. It looks like we are heading into a decider.

This is some drop off from Ons. Her level has significantly dipped and Pegula grabs a firm stranglehold on the set. The American crunches a sublime forehand winner to the postage stamp before her opponent lashes just wide off the same flank to cough up the double break.

It’s sharp work from Pegula. She’s got her mojo flowing again as she comfortably backs yup her break to once again take charge early in the set.

Smiles from Jessica as Ons forlornly challenges on what proves to be the final point of the game. The American once again springs forward to strike the first blow of a set.

Déjà vu. Pegula looks in all sorts out trouble but she somehow fends off three more break points before coming through from deuce. She needed that but surely this will be hard to sustain and win? Jabeur is currently two for nine on BPs.

Ons strikes first blood! The No.8 seed screams in delight as she converts on her second set point to claim a topsy-turvy opening set in 54 minutes.

BREAK! - PEGULA 5-6 JABEUR

Wow! Jabeur comes out all guns blazing and thunders a crosscourt backhand return winner to break to love. She will now serve for the set.

That’s a super hold. It’s hands on hips time when Jabeur finds herself needing to fend off set point after J-Peg’s resistance forces her on the back foot. The Tunisian responds with a corking crosscourt backhand and a forehand on the line to get out of dodge and once again level matters.

Pegula threatens to unravel from 40-0 up but resets and deuce and sneaks another hold to stop the rot.
