Pouille dominates countryman Tsonga to win Erste Bank Open 500 title

The Frenchman claimed the fourth title of his career and his first ATP World Tour 500-level trophy after the 6-1, 6-4 win.

Pouille is also the first player to win on all surfaces in 2017, adding the hard-court crown in Vienna to victories on the clay in Budapest and the grass of Stuttgart.

Despite the loss, Tsonga stays in the hunt for one of the two remaining places in the Race To London, which will be decided at the Paris Masters, the final tournament of the regular season, which starts on Monday.

Pouille stretched the world number 15 right from the start with a barrage of aggressive baseline shots. After saving two break points, Tsonga's only double fault of the match helped Pouille to take a 3-1 lead and the 23-year-old tightened his grip on the contest to cruise to a one-set lead.

Tsonga struggled on serve throughout the whole match, winning just 33 per cent of points on his second serve in the opening set.

A decisive break in the fifth game of the second set gave Pouille, who fired 17 winners in the match, the advantage at 3-2 and he did not look back. Pouille sealed the win after Tsonga's backhand hit the net on match point.
