5-7

GAME, SET AND MATCH FEDERER! Federer given a standing ovation. The Swiss master quickly brings up three match points. He wraps it up with an overhead smash. Not an outstanding display, but a workmanlike effort carries him through to the last eight.

5-6

BREAK TO FEDERER! Finally Federer puts some light between himself and Chiudinelli. Brings up two break points, but needs only one of them to win the game. He will serve for the match.

5-5

Federer not really hanging around in that game as he holds serve with some ease. Federer with seven aces in the match, but has been a strange contest. The number two seed clearly below his best today. Doing just enough to stay ahead, but his form has been patchy.

5-4

Chiudinelli stops the rot. Was a strange point at 30-30 when he just managed to nudge a shot back across the net with Federer stranded and stopping play at the back of the court. He wins the next point to pocket the game. Federer serves to stay in the set.

4-4

Federer yet to take a real grip of this match, but he is slowly and surely getting there with the pace and direction of his groundstrokes proving troublesome to Chiudinelli. Big game now for the qualifier.

4-3

BREAK TO FEDERER! Federer had failed to convert any of his three break points, but he does the business with his fourth one of the match. Moving well, supremely focused and three unforced errors from Chiudinelli sees him drop serve for the first time in the match. We are back on serve.

4-2

Federer slams a winning smash from the back of the court to snare his fifth love service game of the match. A sparkling game from Federer. Pressure immediately back on his opponent.

4-1

Chiudinelli is forced to deuce after recovering from trailing 30-0. Federer tries to find some magic, but a couple of well placed serves from Chiudinelli is enough to provide the platform to see him tick another game off the list. Now just two games away from the second set.

3-1

BREAK TO CHIUDINELLI! First break of the match falls in favour of the underdog. A shocking service game from Federer it must be said, who looks like his mind is somewhere else. Chiudinelli serving holding a 3-1 lead.

2-1

Chiudinelli holds as Federer continues to go for some dramatic winners. The artful Roger seems to be in exhibition mode at the moment, going for the spectacular winner at various opportunities in that game. It suits Chiudinelli, who holds without too much fuss.

1-1

Federer throws in a sliced forehand dropped shot in drawing level with a love service game. Fairly rattling through the games. Federer with four aces in the match.

1-0

Federer quick to bring up a break point in the opening game of the second set, but he is just long with an attempted winner and Chiudinelli staves off the danger to hold. He leads 1-0 in the second set.

6-7

Chiudinelli comes from 3-1 down to move 4-3 ahead in the tie-break before he is short with a shot from deep and Federer thumps a forehand away for a winner. Chiudinelli moves 5-4 clear before Federer plays a delightful drop shot at the net to level at 5-5. Chiudinelli empties a forehand into the net on his serve to give Federer a set point on his serve for the first time. He does the business on his second serve as Chiudinelli knocks a return long. First set to Fed in over an hour.

6-6

Federer brings up his first break point of the match with a stunning winner down the line after Chiudinelli fails to convert a volley, but he can't seal the deal as his opponent saves the day with a winning volley moments later. A mishit gives Chiudinelli a game point, which he clasps. We head to the tie-break.

5-6

All following a familiar pattern as Federer eases 6-5 ahead on serve. No breaks of serve for either man, or a break point. Can Federer make the key break in this game?

5-5

Federer beat Chiudinelli 7-6 6-3 in their only previous meeting on a hard court in Basel in 2009. He is providing stubborn resistance as he thumps a two-handed backhand winner down the line when leading 40-30 to level at 5-5. We remain on serve.

4-5

Federer in a spot of bother as he trails 30-15, but he comes up with the goods with a glorious forehand winner down the line to win his third straight point. Chiudinelli serves to stay alive in the opening set.

4-4

Chiudinelli levels at 4-4. Was dragged to 40-30, but does enough to remain on serve. This is a great effort from the Swiss qualifier, who is ranked a lowly 117 in the world.

3-4

Chiudinelli wins his first point on the Federer serve, but he is powerless to make any kind of impression upon his opponent's service game. Federer looking as composed as you would expect.

3-3

Chiudinelli holds to love in that service game. Going for the lines and getting them at the moment. He closes the game out with a winning volley at the net after Federer failed to pass him down the line. This all-Swiss affair is all square.

2-3

Federer just sailing through these service games. The world number two is yet to drop a point on his serve. Well in control on his serve. He leads by the odd game in five.

2-2

Chiudinelli shows a lovely little touch to move to 40-15 ahead after Federer is short with his drop shot attempt. He holds serve with some comfort. We are level at 2-2 in the opening set. Games on serve.

1-2

Federer plays a lovely little drop shot to finish that game off. Floodlights on in Doha, but the Swiss master is seeing the light with some of his trademark touches. Dangerous times for his compatriot. He serves at 1-2 down.

1-1

Games on serve early on in this one. Chiudinelli holds serve after a confident opening game from Federer.
