Three titles in 2021 have earnt Novak Djokovic a place on the nominations list for Sportsman of the Year, but Rafa Nadal's Melbourne triumph came too late. Six British stars are also in with a chance of taking a trophy with Emma Raducanu, Tom Daley and Mark Cavendish all nominated in various categories. Sky Brown, Sarah Storey and Bethany Shriever could also be winners at the ceremony in April.

Rafael Nadal’s record-breaking win at the Australian Open is thought to have come too late to be recognised on the shortlist for the 2022 Laureus World Sports Awards, with Novak Djokovic the only tennis player to be featured in the Sportsman of the Year category.

Nadal moved ahead of Djokovic and Roger Federer – who awaits news of his comeback from injury – by claiming his 21st Grand Slam title in Melbourne.

Djokovic was unable to compete after being deported from Australia on the eve of the tournament, but his incredible performances in 2021 have seen him earn his place on the shortlist.

Olympic success also features in the World Actions Sports Award category, with Bethany Shriever’s gold for Team GB – paired with her BMX World Championship triumph – seeing her take on American surfer Carissa Moore and Japanese skateboarder Momiji Nishiya.
