GAME, SET AND MATCH! - MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 7-5 BUBLIK. He’s done it! Daniil Medvedev wins a singles match at Roland Garros for the first time ever at the fifth time of asking. The Russian world number two serves it out to love in just one hour and 54 minutes. Could he yet show some clay-court form and go deep in this tournament? It remains to be seen, but that is a very positive step for a man who claims to hate the red dirt.

BREAK! - MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 6-5 BUBLIK. That’s a huge turnaround and Bublik only has himself to blame. He scuffs a shocking slice backhand that drops way short of the net and 30-0 quickly becomes 30-30. He then follows a second serve ace with a double fault to highlight once again just how unpredictable his game can be. Medvedev chooses his moment to stretch off court and produce a wonderful crosscourt return to snare break point and Bublik fires into the net under pressure to leave his opponent to serve for the match.
MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 5-5 BUBLIK. Medvedev follows up a double fault with a timely ace and quickly makes short work of the game from there to level matters after it appeared that the set was slipping away.

BREAK! - MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 4-5 BUBLIK. That’s a disaster for Bublik. He fires down back-to-back double faults, fearlessly – and perhaps stupidly in hindsight – going for big second serves with the game on the line. Medvedev breaks back without having to do too much work.

BREAK! - MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 3-5 BUBLIK. Hold the phone! Bublik cranks it up a couple of gears and unloads some splendid backhand winners to grab a massive break at the third time of asking. He will now serve for the set.
MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 3-4 BUBLIK. That’s wonderful serving from Bublik. It’s clutch play from 0-30 as an underarm serve catches Medvedev out before a powerhouse serve down the middle T and a wide ace see him nudge the board once more.
MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 3-3 BUBLIK. Routine is the word for that. No worries for Daniil as he storms to thumping hold to 15.
MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 2-3 BUBLIK. Close call! Medvedev almost has the breakthrough but Bublik saves the BP with a sizzling winner that touches the net en route to its destination. The Kazakhstani player then finds two timely aces as he gets out of dodge from deuce.

MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 2-2 BUBLIK. Given that he’s the second seed, there’s very much a chance that Medvedev could play his way into finding some rhythm on this surface in what many perceive to be the kinder side of the draw. RG is different in terms of space to move around the court and that may suit him slightly better too. He's surely going face tougher tests than what Bublik is offering, but he’s looking very comfortable today. He eases to a game to 15 to level once more.
MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 1-2 BUBLIK. Alex leans on his serve as a pair of Medvedev winners make life a touch uncomfortable before he edges the game to 30 to keep his nose in front in the fledgling moments of Set 3.
MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 1-1 BUBLIK. Medvedev’s radar is working a treat. He nails two stunning winners right to the depth of the baseline on his way to a routine game to 15 that gets him on the board. A straight-sets wins here would do his confidence and belief the world of good. Can he stay in the zone?
MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 0-1 BUBLIK. The world number 37 opens Set 3 with a solid hold to 30 but there is some fun midway through. The pair charge in to face off at the net and there’s a scream to put each other off. Both players laugh and then Bublik follows up with a crunching body serve. It makes for one of the more enjoyable games of the contest and hopefully there’s more of that to come and Bublik can make more of match of it.

SET! - MEDVEDEV 6-3 6-3 BUBLIK. The Russian stays rock solid as he secures it on his fourth set point after Bublik skied a miscued forehand on the back of a lengthy rally. It’s all rather serene from Medvedev. No drama or teenage-style monologues here.

MEDVEDEV 6-3 5-3 BUBLIK. The world number two applies the heat with some devilish returning but Bublik refuses to bend on this occasion. He saves two set points with some resilient work and now has one last chance to bite back.
MEDVEDEV 6-3 5-2 BUBLIK. The flow of the wind on to court favours Bublik and he sets about trying to force another break to get back on serve. He comes close too, but can’t take advantage of a BP and Medvedev’s sustained big-hitting drags him through from deuce. He’s one game away from a two-set lead.
MEDVEDEV 6-3 4-2 BUBLIK. That’s an excellent service game from Bublik and something he has needed since game 3 of the match. He stays in contention in this set with a hold to 15 but has given himself quite a lot to do to turn it around.

BREAK! - MEDVEDEV 6-3 4-1 BUBLIK. Where did this come from? Bublik drags himself off the canvass and manages to snare a break back. He outlasts the Russian in a lung-busting rally on break point to finally offer some resistance.
